This document summarizes a study on Morgellons disease, an emerging illness characterized by unusual skin lesions and filament production. The study examined material from 3 Morgellons patients under chemical and light microscopy. It found filaments originating from skin epithelial cells, supporting the hypothesis that fibers are composed of keratin from keratinocytes. Abnormalities were seen in hair follicles and filament formation associated with follicles. The study demonstrates that Morgellons disease is not delusional and that skin lesions and fibers are not self-inflicted, providing evidence that filaments originate from human cells.
