3 COMMUNICATION TIPS
COMMUNICATION = EVERYTHING
If you think the only messages you send are the ones you’ve sent
through email, think again. There’s more to it.
Think carefully therefore about the messages your actions might
be sending out. If you’re not sure, ask people. Listening is the
other half of communication, after all.
Each time you have a conversation, pretend there's going to be a
quiz at the end of it. Try to keep a mental checklist of all the
important points the other person makes. When the conversation
is over, force yourself to recall at least three important things the
person said. Get in the habit of doing this until listening becomes
second nature.
TAKE YOUR EMOTIONS OUT OF THE
EQUATION
You try to promote professionalism at the office, but that's not
always easy to do when so many different personalities
converge in such a small space.
Sometimes work discussions can turn into personal attacks.
When an employee is starting to get under your skin, take
your emotions out of the equation. Instead, take a deep
breath, count to 10 and respond in a calm, unemotional way.
COMMUNICATION VIA
TRAINING
Your training should be tailored towards communicating certain
information to your team members. Most employees take training
serious, especially when it’s part of their appraisal.
The ability to communicate effectively is critical in achieving
sustained performance and business excellence. As such,
business professionals must have the understanding and
confidence to communicate with clients, customers, suppliers and
other business associates.
There are specialised courses for communication skills available
from training providers.

  • 2. COMMUNICATION = EVERYTHING If you think the only messages you send are the ones you’ve sent through email, think again. There’s more to it.
