Summary of the Position
The Assistant Director for Residential Education and Community Standards serves as a primary leader
within the multi-cultural apartment style residential education program serving the housing needs of
1300+ students. The Assistant Director, under the direct supervision of the Director of Foundation
Housing Service, is a live-on senior staff member directly responsible for all aspects of the conduct
review/restorative justice program. The Assistant Director is responsible for the educational component of
the Foundation Housing Service living/learning community through the development of a needs based,
responsive, co-curricular residentially based learning curriculum. The Assistant Director and the
Residential Education Staff facilitate the development of a student centered apartment living/learning
community, fostering student leadership, shared decision making, individual and group responsibility and
“good practices” as defined by ACUHO-I. The Assistant Director serves as administrator in-charge for
Residential Education and when required, for the Foundation Housing Service, in the absence of the
Director.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide training, development, support and challenge to 2 full-time Residential Education Specialists,
Graduate Complex Coordinator, 2 Student Coordinators, Community Development Assistant and up to 25
Community Advisors. Responsibilities include leading or contributing to the interviewing, hiring, and
training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; ensuring
accountability; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
2. Responsible for selection, training, and supervision of the full-time Community Development Specialist
and ACUHO-I Intern.
3. Aid in the development of Foundation Housing Service staff and serve on the Village Management
Teams.
4. Coordinate and provide leadership for student group advising (Community Council), counseling,
mediation, education and enforcement of Foundation Housing Service and Cal Poly Pomona policies.
5. Coordinate the judicial/restorative justice process including: adjudication of conduct cases and appeals.
Coordinate with University Police Department to ensure all contact information is accurate & for regular
protocol/follow up. Analyze & report as needed regarding the UPD Media Log.
6. Assist in or coordinate development of policies and procedures as stated in the Student Housing License
Agreement and Student Handbook for Residential Education staff and University Village residents.
7. Manage the Residential Education unit budget aka Participant Support (7196) including development of
a yearly operating budget, monthly budget updates and processes for staff budget accountability.
8. Facilitate some administrative operations of the University Village including temporary keys, academic
year closing, roster checks, move-in days, transfer days, room billing inspections etc.
9. Develop and/or update and implement annual plan for staffing, conduct, staff selection, and staff training.
2. Assist with maintenance concerns and serve as liaison to Foundation Facilities Department.
10. Coordinate annual web-based Residential Experience Survey and needs assessment for all residents. Analyze
and report results.
11. Coordinate the emergency preparedness plan and serve as principal building marshal for the Village.
12. Live in a University Village apartment (required) and serve as a responder to any crisis situation
13. Serve on Foundation and campus committees as needed/requested.
14. Serve as FHS liaison to Student Affairs offices and other stakeholders.
15. Participate in appropriate professional development activities and professional associations.
