1. MUSIC VIDEO THEORY
Narrative:
a way in which a story is told to the audience through a series of events.
Additional theories such as Todorov theory also supports the narrative theory as the
Bulgarian theorist suggests that narrative always start at a state of equilibrium where
everything appears ‘normal’. To where this state of equilibrium is disrupted and the
protagonist have to fight to regain and new state of equilibrium.
Another theorist called Roland Barthes suggest that a narrative works with 5 different codes
which activates the reader to make sense of it…
In addition another theorist is Claude Levi-Strauss
suggested the theory of binary opposites such as,
good/evil, male/female etc…
Genre:
Is a way of categorising a particular media text according to its content and style. Media
genres appear within a medium (film, television) such as the "horror" film.
A genre can be recognised by its common set of distinguishing features (codes and
conventions) and these features are associated with a genre's style and content, for
example, a particular setting, character types.
