18. Maitland’s History of Edinburgh, [1753]
Owner’s inscription and notes. This book is famous for its cancellans or
replaced pages. Caused a stir in its day.
25. Catalogue advert
Auction catalogue advert for the sale of the Bassandyne Bible. Bought
for £10 by Edinburgh Town Council and displayed for many years in the
City Chambers.
26. Bassandyne Bible
Published in 1576 this is Scotland’s oldest printed Bible. Whilst over 20
copies remain Edinburgh Central Library’s copy is thought to be in the
best original condition.
