Literacy
Subject Teacher: Leo D. Dioneda
Lesson Objectives:
At the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
• describe how communication is influenced by
media and information;
• identify the similarities and differences of media
literacy, information literacy, and technology
literacy;
• and discuss responsible use of media and
information.
Learning Task 1:
Think of the past week, and record your use and interaction with media and
information providers such as the internet, social media, TV, radio, newspaper, etc.
Indicate how many hours you spent with each one. These do not have to be exact,
and you can estimate the number of hours you spend each week.
Group Activity
• Divide the class into 3 groups.
• Create a short skit depicting life before and after media technology.
• Each group will be given 5 minutes to plan and brainstorm. Another 5 minutes to
practice and 5 minutes for the presentation.
• Write the members of the groups and their roles on 1 whole sheet of paper.
• After the skit, answer the questions on Learning Task 2
• Criteria for Judging
• A. Timeliness – 5 points
• B. Creativity – 5 points
• C. Acting – 5 points
• D. Relevance to the theme - 5 points
• TOTAL 20 points
Learning Task 2:
• 1. How would you be informed of anything now?
• 2. What ways would you have to communicate with one another?
• 3. How would you share information and communicate news and events?
• 4. What would happen with the decisions you usually make?
• 5. How would it affect the way you live?
• 6. What would you personally miss most in such situation?
• 7. What would society miss in this situation?
We are now living in the 21st Century where people are dependent on technology. Imagine
waking up one day without internet, libraries, and cell phones. Newspapers, magazines,
radio stations and TV channels have also disappeared. Answer the questions below in your
notebook.

Study the images below and answer the
questions in your notebook.

communicate with, or the mass
communication through physical objects
such as radio, television, computers, film,
etc. It also refers to any physical object

aims to empower citizens by providing
them with the competencies (knowledge
and skills) necessary to engage with
traditional media and new technologies.

experience, instruction, signals, or
symbols.

It is recognizing when information
is needed and locating,
evaluating, and communicating
information in its various formats.
• Technology Literacy is the ability of an individual, either
working independently or with others, to responsibly,
appropriately and effectively use technological tools. Using
these tools, an individual can access, manage, integrate,
evaluate, create and communicate information.
• Media and Information Literacy refers to essential skills and
competencies that allow individuals to engage with media and
other information providers effectively, as well as develop
critical thinking and life-long learning skills to socialize and
become active citizens.

Week 1 Media and Information Literacy.pptx

Lesson Objectives: At the end of this lesson, you should be able to: • describe how communication is influenced by media and information; • identify the similarities and differences of media literacy, information literacy, and technology literacy; • and discuss responsible use of media and information.
  • 3. Learning Task 1: Think of the past week, and record your use and interaction with media and information providers such as the internet, social media, TV, radio, newspaper, etc. Indicate how many hours you spent with each one. These do not have to be exact, and you can estimate the number of hours you spend each week.
  • 4. Group Activity • Divide the class into 3 groups. • Create a short skit depicting life before and after media technology. • Each group will be given 5 minutes to plan and brainstorm. Another 5 minutes to practice and 5 minutes for the presentation. • Write the members of the groups and their roles on 1 whole sheet of paper. • After the skit, answer the questions on Learning Task 2 • Criteria for Judging • A. Timeliness – 5 points • B. Creativity – 5 points • C. Acting – 5 points • D. Relevance to the theme - 5 points • TOTAL 20 points
  • 5. Learning Task 2: • 1. How would you be informed of anything now? • 2. What ways would you have to communicate with one another? • 3. How would you share information and communicate news and events? • 4. What would happen with the decisions you usually make? • 5. How would it affect the way you live? • 6. What would you personally miss most in such situation? • 7. What would society miss in this situation? We are now living in the 21st Century where people are dependent on technology. Imagine waking up one day without internet, libraries, and cell phones. Newspapers, magazines, radio stations and TV channels have also disappeared. Answer the questions below in your notebook.

  • 14. • Technology Literacy is the ability of an individual, either working independently or with others, to responsibly, appropriately and effectively use technological tools. Using these tools, an individual can access, manage, integrate, evaluate, create and communicate information. • Media and Information Literacy refers to essential skills and competencies that allow individuals to engage with media and other information providers effectively, as well as develop critical thinking and life-long learning skills to socialize and become active citizens.
