X-Treme Academics. Like an
extreme sporting event, academics
at Daemen will push you, challenge
you, and possibly exhaust you—but
it feels so good when you succeed.
Plus, you’ll be surrounded by your
professors, fellow students, and
other members of the Daemen com-
munity who will support you every
step of the way. Choose one or more
of our rigorous academic options to
put your knowledge to the test:
Daemen’s First-Year Experience,
Honors Program, Academic Ex-
change, or Undergraduate Research.
Real Career Experience. When it
comes to choosing a career—even
choosing your major—the best way
to decide is to actually do what
you’re thinking about. Daemen’s
Co-op and Career Development
Office will help you find an intern-
ship or co-op position so that you
can gain real-world experience in
your area of interest. Our students
say how lucky they feel to have this
chance to find out what careers in
their fields are really like. An added
bonus: internship employers fre-
quently hire Daemen students after
graduation.
Learning Through Service. During
their life at Daemen, virtually all
undergraduate students engage in
various service learning activities.
Students from every major and class
level participate as individuals or
with groups in short-term and long-
term projects or assignments that
benefit local, national, or global
communities. At Daemen, you
might work with environmental
organizations or refugee groups; you
could tutor or mentor children in
city schools; or you may provide
services in nursing homes, hospi-
tals, or clinics. Our students make a
difference throughout the local
community and the world.
Thanks to these efforts, Daemen
has been named to the President’s
Higher Education Service Learning
Honor Roll, the highest federal
recognition a school can achieve
for its commitment to service-
learning and civic engagement.
Global Education Programs. In
today’s global economy, it makes
sense to learn all you can about dif-
ferent cultures. What better way than
to visit one—or more—for yourself?
International study is a staple of the
Daemen experience. We offer semes-
ters abroad, summer programs, and
accelerated January term trips coor-
dinated either by individual profes-
sors or through special programs
like the Consortium for North
American Sustainability (CNAS),
Center for Cross-Cultural Studies,
Study in China, New Etruria College
Association (NECA), and an Inter-
national Study Minor.
Student Profile. 1,705 undergradu-
ates and 838 graduate students.
Students come from all over the
United States—Colorado, Connect-
icut, Illinois, Maine, Maryland,
Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio,
Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas,
and Washington—and from all over
New York. The average high school
GPAforacceptedstudentsis90percent.
History. Established by the Sisters of
St. Francis of Penance and Christian
Charity as Rosary Hill College in 1947
(a liberal arts college for women), the
College became co-educational in
1971. In 1976, it became independ-
ent and nonsectarian, changing its
name to Daemen College.
Student Life. With more than 50
student organizations, themed din-
ners, movie nights, and every other
kind of activity imaginable, there’s
always something happening on
campus. Or, if you’re feeling adven-
turous, the city of Buffalo is a mere
15 minutes away. Enjoy the city’s
theater, music, art, restaurants, and
major-league sports—even a first-
rate zoo. Or take a slightly longer
road trip and find yourself in scenic
Niagara Falls. You’ll have the best of
all possible worlds at Daemen.
Residence Halls. Modern apart-
ment-style residence halls provide
separate housing for male and female
students, in addition to our existing
five-story residence hall for freshmen.
All residence halls have kitchens,
laundry facilities, lounges, and in-
room phone/Internet connections.
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are
served on weekdays in the Wick
Student Center. Brunch and dinner
are served on Saturdays and Sundays.
Adequate parking is available.
Wick Student Center. Full-service
meals are served in the main din-
ning hall, with an _ la carte selection
in the snack bar. The recreation
room and Cyber Cafe are popular
spots for socializing and relaxing
during the day or evening. Pool
tables, ping-pong, foosball, and
other games are available, as well as
a large-screen TV, DJ booth, and
dance floor. Wick Student Center
also houses a multipurpose social
room, information desk, and several
lounges and meeting rooms.
Academic Computing Services. The
Academic Computing Center (ACC)
maintains servers for remote access,
e-mail, the Web, and other Internet
services. Internet accounts are avail-
able without charge to all Daemen
students. The ACC offers training
workshops on a variety of programs
and applications.
Financial Aid. Daemen College pro-
vides significant scholarship oppor-
tunities based on student ability.
These range from $14,000-$19,850
Trustee Scholars awards (students
must compete for these) to $3,000-
$10,000 awards. Our students are
also eligible for a variety of grants,
loans, and on-campus jobs.
Students who file the FAFSA and
demonstrate need may be eligible
for Daemen grant funding.

Extra challenges. International experience. Internships. Service learning.
Daemen College offers you a world of opportunity:
Daemen College Programs
Beginning with the class entering in the fall 2009, Daemen College will no
longer require applicants to submit standardized test scores (SAT, ACT)
as part of the admission application. Our decision to make test scores
optional reflects our commitment to enrolling students who reflect intellec-
tual curiosity, persistence in reaching a goal, talent, motivation, and deter-
mination to make a difference in their lives and the lives of others. We rely
on high school GPA, transcripts (including grade performance and rigor of
courses selected), extracurricular activities, class rank, and counselor or
teacher recommendations in making our admission decisions. We value
strong writing skills, a solid secondary school program, and a student’s
potential for making an important contribution to our campus community.
We will also give careful consideration to applications from students
whose preparation is unusual and who can provide strong recommenda-
tions as to their ability to succeed in a college program of study.

You Can Get What You Want!
Your College Decision:
• A choice of hot majors and
great professors who get to
know the real you. Our 15:1
student-faculty ratio means
you’ll have small classes where
you can work with professors
on a one-on-one basis. Fact:
You’ll learn from the best at
Daemen. Our faculty members
come from institutions such as
Harvard, Oxford, Berkeley, and
the Yale University of Medicine.
• Intensive career preparation.
Rigorous professional programs
grounded in a core of liberal arts
learning mean that you’ll grad-
uate from Daemen with the
knowledge you need not only
to land a job but also to build a
lifelong career with purpose.
Fact: 93% of those surveyed from
Daemen’s Class of 2007 were
employed and/or 37% were attend-
ing graduate school.
• A safe and friendly campus.
As you walk across the
Daemen campus, almost every-
one you pass will say “hi”—not
just to be friendly, but because
they know you! Fact: Money
magazine has rated Daemen’s
suburban location in Amherst,
New York, as one of the safest
cities in the country.
• Affordability. All this, and it’s
affordable, too? You bet. In
fact, you can reap the benefits
of this private-college experi-
ence for about the same as it
will cost you to attend a state
college or university. Fact:
More than 95% of Daemen
College students receive some
type of merit-or need-based
financial assistance.
• Something special about
Daemen. In the real world,
information doesn’t come in
neat little packages. That’s why
many Daemen classes are
taught as Learning Communities,
in which two or three courses
from different departments are
linked so that students can
experience a topic from several
perspectives. You’ll meet pro-
fessors and fellow students
from a variety of majors who
will challenge you to think and
learn in new ways.
Money Matters
Who says you have to compromise when it comes to choosing a college?
You’ve worked hard to get where you are, and you deserve
to find a college that has everything you’ve dreamed about.
Daemen College is the place for you, if you want:
We don’t want financial issues to
keep any admitted student from
attending Daemen. That is why we
strive to create individualized finan-
cial aid packages for you and your
family that will meet your needs and
enable you to get the most from
your education.
At Daemen, we offer substantial
financial aid to all of our students
and work hard to ensure that paying
for college does not become a bur-
den. In fact, over 95% of our full-
time undergraduate students receive
some type of financial assistance.
The average financial aid package at
Daemen College is worth $14,000.
A Private School Is Within
Your Reach
Daemen offers merit bases scholar-
ships based on a student’s academic
and leadership achievement. Just by
applying and being accepted to
Daemen, a student may qualify for
one of the following scholarships:

tuition and (4) $15,000 awards

The Daemen
Core Curriculum
At Daemen, we take an innovative
approach to general education

Daemen Core Competencies, and
it’s based on achieving seven life and
academic competencies rather than
on completing a list of required
classes. You must take 15 courses
during your time at Daemen to mas-
ter all seven competencies, but you
can pick and choose among a variety
of classes that catch your interest.
THE SEVEN CORE COMPETENCIES

Solving
Skills you’ll master: Ability to reason,
generate alternative choices, and
arrive at meaningful decisions.
2. Literacy in Information and
Multimedia Technology
Skills you’ll master: Capacity to
effectively use technologies such as
computers, software, the Internet,
and databases for research, commu-
nication, and lifelong learning.
3. Communication Skills

municate, both orally and in writing,
across cultural and situational
boundaries.
4. Affective Judgment
Skills you’ll master: An understanding
of how humans respond emotionally
to sensory experiences and develop
aesthetic sensibility.
5. Moral and Ethical Discernment
Skills you’ll master: Non-judgmental
understanding of how moral and
ethical standards are formed and
shape both our personal lives and
public policy.
6. Contextual Competency
Skills you’ll master: Ability to under-
stand the past and present issues
affecting individuals, local societies,

We will also give careful consideration to applications from students whose preparation is unusual and who can provide strong recommenda- tions as to their ability to succeed in a college program of study.
