Hard Drive Add On - 101

Let’s Begin
 People know how difficult it is to complete certain computer tasks. Sometimes it
may feel a little overwhelming, or you just need the right information to get you
started. I the next few slides, we hope you will feel empowered that you tackled a
task, usually left to the professionals.
 We will attempt to install a Hard Drive Add on, with a little step by step
instruction. Success, is just around the corner , let’s get started.
Part 1
Let’s start up the computer
Enter your user name and password, if required
Start the VMware program. Once the program
appears, click the desired tab of the VMware,
you wish to use, right click on that tab, and go
to setting. Left click at setting.
Please look for the Add icon ( with a blue and
yellow shield beside it). Click that icon.
A window may pop-up, asking you if you want
to use Administrative Privileges. Click Yes.
The Add Hardware Wizard Window comes up. We
need to make sure Hardware Disk out of the list is
highlighted, then click next.
Next, you want to choose the SCSI (Recommended)
setting, then click next.
We continue with (create a new virtual disk) and by
default, it should be highlighted. If not, choose this
option.
Part 1
Important step, for this lab we are choosing how
large the capacity in (GB) this disk size will be.
Please enter the maximum disk size to be (5.0).
The, choose the (Store virtual disk as a single file)
Continue by clicking next
Now we come to the end of the line. The next
window will indicate the file name. Please do not
change the file name. Allow the computer to take
care of that part. Now we get to click finish, and
see the result of your adventure.
Part 1
As you can see, the new Hard disk has been added
to the list. As shown in the snap shot, you should
see the same information.
It should show a Hard Drive added of (5GB), you
have now successfully added a hard drive space.
Let’s Move on to Part 2
Ending of Part 1
Part 2
Now that we added a new Hard Drive,
let us now change a few of the details.
We begin by powering up the VMware
we added with the new drive. Enter as
admin, and enter your password.
When then go to (tools) on the upper
right corner of the screen, then choose
computer management.
Go to Disk Management, on the next
slide, your screen should look like this.
Part 2
Creating a New Simple Volume
You should see an unallocated partition, called Disk
1. Right click on that wording of the box, click this on
to online. Initialize the disk, and make the partition
for this challenge an MRB partition. Once this is
accomplished choose the unallocated box next to it,
and choose it to be a new simple volume.
The wizard should pop up, click next, allow the
default to choose the next settings, click next.
We must now choose to assign our drive a letter,
please assign the letter L, and click next.( should look
like the next slide) Again allow the computer to
choose next 2 settings, just click next. We come to
the final choice, and choose Finish.
You have just successfully assigned your new drive,
the letter L.
