In The LEFTSE project the consortium based its research on a military vehicle that has an exhaust which measures approximately 1.5metres in length. The OEM of the vehicle hd problems with back pressure and was at the current limit for noise. Back pressure was robbing the vehicle of performance - power and fuel economy. It was considered that the Vortex exhaust technology would be ideal for this application because it would reduce back pressure and consequently allow improved fuel economy and more power and torque.
