Lesson: Reading Street/Sidewalks) Unit 2 Story 1(RS)
Content Objectives:
SWBAT build concepts and vocabulary
5.RL.4 SWBAT Determine the meaning of words and phrases
as they are used in a text, including figurative language such as metaphors and similes .

Language Objectives:
SWBAT read connected text fluently

SWBAT respond to literature 5.W.1Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to
task, purpose, and audience. (Grade-specific expectations for writing types are defined in standards 1–3 above.)
SWBAT use sequence to improve comprehension (5.RL.1 1. Quote accurately from a text when explaining
what the text says explicitly and when drawing inferences from the text.)

Lesson Activities:
Day 1- Vocabulary and context clues; graphic organizers and strategies; Read Story 1 Sidewalks
Day 2- Introduce sequence as comprehension strategy; reading passage
Day 3 Read Wings for the King
Day 4- Story 3 Sidewalks; sequencing
Day 5- Read Works sequence and writing response
Vocabulary:TBD
Centers: Lexia, independent reading , listening- Tumblebooks and sequencing strategy,
vocabulary/spelling center
