Five acts - Five essential songs
to sing David Bowie´s Live
“I see right, so wide,
so open-hearthed pain
I want eagles in my daydreams,
diamonds in my eyes”
Blackstar - 2016
“Making love with his ego,
Ziggy sucked up into his mind
like a leper messiah”
Ziggy Stardust - 1972
“Intergalactic,
see me to be you
it´s all in the tablets
Sneezy Bhutan”
Little wonder - 1997
“I spoke into his eyes
I´ve thought you died
alone, a long long
time ago”
The man Who sold
the world - 1970
“The stars look very
different today,
the planet earth is blue
and there´s nothing
I can do”
Space oddity - 1969
3. The sound of a countdown announce
the inevitable: a tin spacial capsule
takeoff carrying inside a bewildered slim
guy starts its journey to outer space. A
surrounding guitar cord sense the
sadness in that non-place they are
heading to where everything seems close
even if it is far, far away...
Space oddity (1969) was the very first
hit song on David Bowie´s career, the
story of Major Tom´s journey. A very
unique narrative placed with images
drawn in outer space where a profound
sense of solitude takes over. Early on,
loneliness would be one of
Bowie´s most outlined concerns
all along its merging career.

world
The oddness on denying
oneself
Bowie´s second album stands out
with another peculiar issue with
this artist personal vision: its
fixation with indefinable, those
matters that can be admired but
not allways labelled. In fact, since
its early beginnings Bowie knew
how to play with its own image to
invite others to untie beauty from
preconceptions.
“The man who sold
the world” (1970) is a deep
reflexion on the rol of a modern
artist and the dualism joining
those who are engage to any
expression of art: the man that
creates and artist that expresses
the work created.

4. The rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust
and the spiders from mars (1972)
was the synthesis of a unique
visual storytelling join by a
powerful and electric sound
played by Bowie where the
sense of isolation is still present,
this time featured by the glamour
and shine of Ziggy Stardust,
an androgynous creature
who came from outer space
that share with us a deep
sense of solitude.

Little
Wonder
The find of the inner-light
After shifting around different
musical waves, in the 90´s Bowie
comes back to his roots as
conceptual artist with Earthling
(1997), a dense musical work that
remembers the legacy of Bowie´s
work within the video Little wonder,
a clear reference to the most famous
character he created: Ziggy Stardust.
At the same time, a powerful and
modern post industrial sound states
the consistency on Bowie´s artistic
voice, in fact, the dilemma he went
through was not about finding a
cohesive message to express but to
find out that he really had no need
for fictional characters to resonate
deep and high with the public
through times...
5. Blackstar
The twilight of a bright star
Bowie´s life was a perfect metaphor of a bright star: the story of an
intense and complete artist whose legacy stands out in various fields
such as music, mode and filmaking. In fact, Bowie´s last album named
Blackstar (2016) features this image on its cover, a clear statement
about the whole atmosphere regarding the sense of the proximity of
death, but that also evoques a deep love to live with a homonimous
song that touches various nuances surrounding death´s uncertainty to
truly moments of light and joy for a remarkable artistic work.
Remembering such a great legacy, it does not seem excessive to think
that Bowie might be the purest form of Nietzcshe´s Superior man, a
human being fully aware of the loneliness involved in living and die
but, despite this awkward feeling, a human being willing to rise and
explode with a inner sense of purpose in life, a strong feeling
of being happy to itself, and through this splendid selfishness,
being able to light up others beyond eternity.
