The climate in Lithuania can be described
as typical European continental influenced
climate with warm, dry summers and fairly
severe winters. January is the coldest
month with daytime temperatures usually
around -7°C, but in some cases winter
months can be quite colder with
temperatures far below zero, about -23°C
or lower and strong, cold northeasterly
winds.

It is cleberated on 24th December and this
evening is the most wonderful evening in
the year. We decorate Christmas tree,
have family supper and try to spend all
time of this evening with family in
Lithuania.

Our grandparents made predictions on
Christmas Eve. They tried to know who
would be their love, who would be lucky
next year and more stuffs.
7. Christmas Eve Food
Lithuania has got special Christmas Eve
cookies.
There must be at least 12 dishes on the
table in the Christmas Eve. We can’t eat
meat.
8. Christmas
We celebrate First Day of Christmas on
25th December. In the early morning kids
get up and go to see what Santa Claus left
under the Christmas tree.

Christmas is family celebration and New
Year is outgoing celebration in Lithuania.

People wait for the midnight because they
want to see fireworks and start a new
year.

Some people stay at home, some go to
friends and wait for the midnight to shoot
fireworks .
People go to restaurants, parks, towns
halls, streets to celebrate New Year with
other people in towns.
17. Shrove Tuesday
Shrove Tuesday is a merry carnival. It is
celebrated on Tuesday, the eve of Ash
Wednesday, to mark the winter's end. The
traditional figures in the carnival are the
loan Kanapinis (the Hemp Man), Lasininis
the Fatty .
