What is L4MS and how does it benefit manufacturing SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises)? L4MS aims to reduce the installation time and cost of mobile robots by a factor of 10 by using an IoT-platform called OPIL. This presentation gives an overall view of L4MS and our Open Call 2018.

In a typical factory the transport of parts and components accounts for 25% of employees, 55% of all factory space, and 87% of the production time. While the large manufacturers are aggressively investing in logistics automation to minimize the manufacturing costs, SMEs have struggled to benefit from these new advanced technologies due to the inflexibility of solutions, lack of in‐house knowledge and need of large initial investment.
Shorter production cycles, more product individualization and customization require a high degree of flexibility on factory floor leaving the conventional linear chain production3. Today technology can deliver fully automated, modular equipment that achieves both a high throughput and a consistently high
quality, with a high degree of decisional autonomy to self‐organize the production. However, lack of standards and the un‐availability of low cost equipment represent critical constraints for SMEs and Mid‐Caps to adopt this paradigm.
L4MS (Logistics for Manufacturing SMEs) aims to provide an integral, and pan‐European ecosystem to address these challenges, to unleash the innovation potential of manufacturing industry especially SMEs and Mid‐Caps across Europe. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.
This “one‐stop‐shop” for logistic automation will gather all the services offered by the partners. WE not only provide the technical support but also access to finance, mentoring to create new business models and training for your staff. With the Marketplace companies can find the best, optimal solution to their individual needs.
L4MS will provide an open industrial IoT platform with latest navigation, localization, mapping and traffic management services for rapid and cost effective
deployment of customized logistics solutions.
LOGOS
Firstly, each selected experiment will receive up to €3.000 equity-free for its initial funding stage and will enter the Application Experiments (AE) Definition phase where L4MS will carefully select entrepreneur on residence and CEO on residence for each experiment. The AEs will have two months to develop their Technical Proposal and an Outline Business Plan. During the next stage 12 most promising experiments will be selected for up to €247.000 equity free funding. Selected experiments will enter the execution phase where they will receive, along the 6-month full technical, financial and business support from L4MS partners to develop the experiments proposed. The best in class experiments will pass to the Scale Up phase.
