Dickson Medical Asso-
ciates is pleased to wel-
come Dr. Bryan Doherty
as its new Non-Invasive
Cardiologist. Doherty re-
cently completed a Car-
diovascular Disease Fel-
lowship with the Lenox
Hill Heart and Vascular
Institute in New York
City.
Doherty was born in
Canada and grew up in
Ireland, where he attend-
ed medical school at the
Royal College of Sur-
geons in Dublin. His in-
tent was always to prac-
tice medicine in the Unit-
ed States. Prior to his fel-
lowship, Dr. Doherty
completed his Residency
and a Chief Residency at
St Luke’s Roosevelt Hos-
pital Center, also in New
York City.
“What was immediate-
ly apparent to my wife
and I on moving to Ten-
nessee is how friendly the
people are,” said Doherty.
“Ialreadyknoweverysin-
gle one of my neighbors,
sixhousesdowneachway,
and all the houses across
the street. Coming from
New York, I lived in an
apartment building with
86 apartments. I knew
maybe one person in pass-
ing.”
Doherty will work
alongside Dr. David Blaz-
er and Dr. Ehab Kasasbeh
at DMA’s cardiology of-
fices located on the third
floor of Tri-Star Horizon
Hospital.
As a non-invasive car-
diologist, Doherty will
provideagreaterfocuson
the diagnostic side of car-
diac care. His expertise
willaddtosomeoftheser-
vices that DMA Cardiolo-
gy already provides in-
cluding nuclear stress
testing and echocardiog-
raphy, having board certi-
fications in both modal-
ities.
“With my expertise in
non-invasive and preven-
tative cardiology, these
skills will compliment
those of my colleagues,
Dr. Blazer and Dr. Kasas-
beh, affording patients at-
tending the practice a sig-
nificantly wider range of
therapeutic options,” Do-
herty said.
In his approach to pa-
tient care, Doherty recog-
nizes the multi-faceted
nature of patient disease
and he intends to bring a
focus on patient care that
addresses these chal-
lenges. In doing this he
willseektoengageinaho-
listic way with the issues
that patients and primary
careprovidersmaystrug-
gle with, a range of diag-
noses that extend from
blood pressure manage-
ment to complex arrhyth-
mias.
One of his foremost ob-
jectives with approaching
cardiac care is to see what
the diagnosis means to his
patientsandprovidethem
with a thorough under-
standing of their condi-
tion.
“I think it can often be
pretty emotive coping
with a cardiac problem,”
said Doherty. “In my opi-
nion, patients often find it
valuable to tease out some
of these emotions. I am
here to reassure when
necessary and to provide
additional options when
the answer is not so sim-
ple. Half the battle is un-
derstanding the illness.”
“My dad is a doctor too
andoneoftherealperson-
ality traits he instilled in
me when practicing medi-
cine is the need for humil-
ity when it comes to the
trust people place in their
doctors,” said Doherty.
“He told me to never let
that humility fade and
never be blind to how
much it means for some-
one to seek your advice on
some of their most per-
sonal issues.”
Doherty is currently
available to see patients
Mondays through Fridays
from 8 am to 5 pm. Ap-
pointments can be made
by phone at 615-441-4448.
