2. Dr. A H M Sharfuddin Mahmud
Chowdhury is a trauma surgeon
working at Groote Schuur
Hospital,
Cape Town and senior lecturer in
the
Department of Surgery, University
of
Cape Town, South Africa.
3. He was born in 1977 at Noakhali in Bangladesh.
At his early life he went to different schools in
Chittagong due to his father’s Government job.
He completed his Secondary School Certificate (SSC)
from Nasirabad Government High School, Chittagong
in 1992 and
Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) in 1994 from
Chittagong Government College, Bangladesh.
4. He obtained the degree MBBS from Chittagong
Medical College under the University of Chittagong,
Bangladesh in 2003.
After completion of his internship training he joined
in the department of Surgery, Chittagong Medical
College Hospital as an honorary Medical Officer
and started his surgical carrier in 2005.
He was Government scholarship holder throughout
his student life.
5. Dr. Chowdhury moved to South Africa for Surgical
training in 2006 and joined as a Registrar in the
Department of Surgery, University of Cape Town (UCT).
He obtained fellowship in general surgery, FCS (SA)
from the Colleges of Medicine South Africa (CMSA) in
2012.
After completion of the fellowship, he was appointed as
consultant at Groote Schuur Hospital Trauma Centre,
University of Cape Town which is one of the busiest
trauma centres in the world.
He also obtained the degree M Med (Surgery) from the
University of Cape Town (UCT) in 2013.
6. His special interests include penetrating and
blunt chest, abdomen, neck, and peripheral
vascular trauma.
Besides his busy clinical practice, he is actively
involved in undergraduate and post graduate
teaching at the University of Cape Town.
He has numerous publications in peer-
reviewed journals and has presented research
at several national and international
congresses.
7. He is also member of different national and
international surgical societies.
Currently he is busy with doctoral research
under the supervision of world famous trauma
surgeon Prof. Andrew Nicol.
He is married to Rifat Jahan and recently
blessed with daughter, Farwa Chowdhury.
