A Great Night in a Familiar Place
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Oct. 28, 2015) Rows of food vendors, thousands of smiling
faces, beer steins in hands and twinkling lights hanging throughout Hemming Park.
This was the scene at Jacksonville’s third annual Oktoberfest, hosted by Art Walk
and Downtown Vision Inc. The monthly showcase was held from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday
Oct. 7 and featured many performances, contests and beer vendors. Hana Ashchi, Art
Walk’s marketing director, said that Art Walk helps local restaurants, too.
“They can pay a month’s rent in one night,” Ashchi said.
With a food truck waiting list that goes on until the month of February and more
than 50 vendors, Art Walk attendees can experience new food vendors at every Art Walk
on the first Wednesday of each month.
“I just graduated college and attending Ocktoberfest in Germany has always been
a dream of mine,” said Martin Penalba, Oktoberfest at Art Walk attendee. “This event did
a great job at combining the fun aspects of Oktoberfest with the usual things you find at
Art Walk.”
Penalba and other young professionals like him are the crowd that Art Walk is
now reaching out to. Art Walk has expanded its hours from 9 p.m. to close and have
created Art Walk After Dark. This event allows young 20-somethings and 30-somethings
to enjoy Art Walk, food and drinks further into the night.

Attendees of Oktoberfest at Art Walk had the opportunity to purchase many
different types of beer from food vendors, trucks and bars. Observing the different
glasses was like seeing a rainbow of gold to amber and all of the shades in between.
Visitors also headed to the local art galleries for their choices of art and wine.
With beer, laughs and live performances, Jacksonville residents and Oktoberfest
lovers are already saying that they are looking forward to the fun of Oktoberfest at Art
Walk next year.
“I will 100 percent be coming back next year,” Penalba added.
