2. INTRODUCTION
The journey of team of terrorists
Mumbai, the commercial capital of India, came under heinous terrorist
attack on 26th November, 2008.
The attack took place at many locations, especially at CST railway
station;
the Leopold Café,; Taj Hotel; Oberoi Trident Hotel; Nariman House.
Ten terrorists started in a small boat from Karachi on Nov 22. After
traveling about 40 minutes, they were shifted to a larger boat, Al-Husseini,
There after, the terrorists shifted to vessel MV KUBER. After reaching
Mumbai, they killed the captain of MV KUBER, Amar Singh Solanki.
Ten terrorists divided into five teams and took taxies to different target
destinations.
4. CST station in Mumbai
One of the target. More than 3.5
million passengers pass
through the station every day.
At about 21.20 hours, two terrorists
entered the station and started firing
indiscriminately from their rifles and also
lobbed
grenade. The carnage resulted in 58
dead and 104 injured.
5. The two terrorists left the CST station and fled into a lane towards CAMA
Hospital.
They exchanged fire with the police team. They fired at the police vehicle
carrying three senior police officers and four policemen. Believing that all
the
occupants had been killed, they pulled out the bodies of the three police
officers and hijacked the police vehicle. However, only six were killed and
one policeman, constable Arun Jadhav, survived and was eye witness to
the event. After traveling some distance, the terrorists abandoned thepolice
vehicle and hijacked another passenger car. The car
came up against a police barricade at Girgaum Chowpatti, and in
exchange of fire with the police, Ismail Khan was killed and
Mohd. Ajmal Amir Kasab was captured, an assistant sub inspector,
Tukaram Ombale was killed while overpowering Kasab.
6. Mohd. Ajmal Amir Kasab
Ajmal Kasab, the only
attacker who was captured
alive, disclosed that the
attackers were members of
Lashkar-e-Taiba, the
Pakistan-based militant
organization, considered a
terrorist organization by
India, the United States, and
the United Kingdom, among
others. The Indian
Government said that the
attackers came from
Pakistan, and their
controllers were in Pakistan.

8. Target –Leopold Café & Bar
The leopold café, a favorite
place for indian and foreigners,
was attacked by
two terrorists, firing indiscriminately
using AK-47 and grenade was lobbed.
Ten persons killed and manyinjured.
After about five minutes, they ran
towards
Hotel Taj, about half kms. Away.
9. Target -The Taj Mahal Hotel
The pride of Mumbai,
constructed in 1903, is a
heritage building and an
icon in Mumbai. It has
two wings, the heritage
wing with 290 rooms and
the TajTowers with 275
rooms

Four terrorist, including
two from Leopold café
targeted the hotel. The
first pair entered though
the lobby and opened
fire killing 20 people.
The second pair entered
from the north court and
fired indiscriminately and
hurled grenade.
11. The four terrorists
moved upto sixth floor
of the heritage wing,
killing anyone who
came in their way. The
set fire to a portion of
the hotel. The first,
fifth, and sixth floor of
the heritage wing were
badly gutted.
There was a hostage
situation because many
guests had locked
themselves in their
rooms

The operation continued
till the morning of Nov.
29th , nearly 450 guests
were rescued. The
terrorists killed 32
persons including hotel
guests and staff.
16. Target - Oberoi Trident hotel
Two terrorists entered the
hotel through the main
entrance and started firing.
Two IED were exploded.
Killing guests and staff on
their way.
NSG took charge of the
operation on 27th morning
which continued for 42
hours. The two terrorists
were killed. 33 persons lost
their lives.
20. Aftermath
On 7 January 2009, after more than a month of
denying the nationality of the attackers,
Pakistan's Information Minister Sherry Rehman
officially accepted Ajmal Amir's nationality as
Pakistani. On 12 February 2009, Pakistan's
Interior Minister Rehman Malik, in a televised
news briefing, confirmed that parts of the attack
had been planned in Pakistan and said that six
people, including the alleged mastermind, were
being held in connection with the attacks.
23. CONCLUSION
Let us stand up to pay homage to those who
sacrificed
their lives for the living of all Indians.
Let their sacrifice not go waste. Let us take
oath that we,
under no circumstances, shall allow the
terrorist activities to continue.
