1. ENERGY: POTENTIAL AND
KINETIC ENERGY
BAD EXAMPLE
Grade 6 SOL 6.2: The student will investigate
and understand basic sources of energy, their
origins, transformations, and uses.
Key concepts include potential and kinetic
energy
2. ENERGY
Energy- Ability to do work.
EX. A quarterback does work on the football when he exerts the
force to throw the ball
Energy is exerted onto your pencil tip when you push to write.
Two types of energy we will learn in this unit
Kinetic
Potential
3. KINETIC ENERGY
Is the type of energy that is in motion.
Kinetic energy is also dependent on the mass ( how much something
weighs) and the speed (how fast something moves).
Faster and heavier objects have a greater kinetic energy.
Slower and lighter objects will have a smaller kinetic energy in
comparison.
4. POTENTIAL ENERGY
Is the energy when an object is not at motion, or the
energy that the object contains.
Potential energy is also known as the stored energy.
The energy an object has at rest.
