Dear Prospective Employer,
I am elite communicator – in print, using digital media, on social media and in person.
Please consider me for your Communications position.
Here’s what I can provide you: I know the area and its people. I know local issues,
local governments and how they work. I know how newsrooms operate, what they want
and how to get it to them that shows my message in the best light. I know many of the
media members and their personalities. I know how to reach large audiences and am
proficient and adept on social media where I have a proven long reach. I have a history
of becoming an “instant expert” on issues – under tight, daily deadlines – by taking
complex ideas or situations and presenting them in a manner that is easily understood. I
have supervised staff and am a critical thinker who doesn’t need direction to initiate
projects. I’m a problem-solver who engages his audience, using technology to spread
my message.
I am fearless in serving my employer while also being trusted for being fair by those I’ve
written about – and not always favorably. (See letters of recommendation.)
I am a leader and have been at the fore of digital transition. I have experience
effectively delivering my message across multiple digital platforms. As a journalist, I
help push the digital transition while developing photo, video, video editing and other
skills. I also run the social media campaign for a local veteran elected official. I’ve
worked in many of the MS software programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
The most enjoyable atmospheres for me are collaborating with others and working as a
team to find solutions or creatively develop ideas. I’ve been relied on for years by co-
workers to provide insight and assistance while also excelling independently in fast-
paced, deadline-driven environments. I am viewed as a mentor who works to help all
around me to succeed. I have exceptional time management and organizational skills.
I’m easy to talk to and a good listener.
I’m extremely competitive and proven quick learner. I am highly productive and need
little supervision. I am used to juggling several assignments on tight deadlines. As a
self-starter, I take responsibility for tasks and see them through to completion.
As a journalist – I also consider myself a professional learner -- I marketed myself every
day, getting people to provide me with sensitive information, getting others to trust me
and getting readers to know that I was the one they HAD to read, whether in the
newspaper, online or on Twitter (@kimballperry), Facebook (Kimball PerryJournalist) or
other social media.
2. I work well in the chain of command and am seen by my bosses as a leader. I’m among
the first to innovate and try new ways and equipment to better tell stories. I was among
the leaders in shooting and editing video (all on an iPhone) and using other digital
applications to gather and report news.
Here and here are examples of my work.
Here are some of the videos I shot and edited.
Thank you for your consideration. Please let me know if you’d like to arrange an
interview.
Respectfully,
Kimball Perry

Award winning Communicator
As a professional communicator for 25 years, I’ve written about people, communities
and government and the issues that impact them. I quickly identify the task, use
resources to communicate to all involved and complete the job. My work has changed
the law and public policy.
I have analyzed complicated issues, budget and financial documents, complicated legal
jargon and large quantities of data to convert them to easily understandable messages.
I’ve dealt with the most powerful in society (government, community and business
leaders) and the least (serial killers, the afflicted and untrusting victims) to convince
them to help me communicate dynamic information to the public. I can produce that
information across print, video, photo, digital and social media platforms.
I am a super-salesman. I convince others to provide me with data, often sensitive, that
helps promote my message, my product and organization. I work without fear and have
proven I can write, speak and think quickly and adroitly in difficult situations. I am a
mentor to many and have editing, layout and management experience. I started writing
on a typewriter but now shoot and edit video, proving my adaptability throughout my
career. I have a proven history of being a critical thinker who can gather, analyze,
assess and disseminate information under very strict deadlines and produce quality
ideas, copy and action.
