HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND
RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES
2. Negative
There are some aspects of IMovie that did not allow us to
create our movie to the full potential of editing in which
we wanted it to be.
• For example we wanted to have credits that were sort
of quirky but displayed all of the information we
wanted. However IMovie would only let us use the
limited number of credit rolls it already had installed.
• There was a lack of rendering possibilities in IMovie. It
only allowed us to use 25 frames per second (FPS)
which withdraws the ability to be able to make parts
of our film in slow motion due to the impossibility of a
30 or 60 FPS.
• The software iMovie is only available on Mac, which
means we had to share the MacBook between the
three of us. This was good because
Positive
IMovie allowed us to obtain some very positive results
from our editing.
• The program allowed us to upload all of the footage
we had shot then pick and choose which scenes we
wanted in our film and which ones we did not.
• Sound was also very easy to edit in iMovie as you are
given bars which you can drag up and down to edit the
volume of the sound.
• IMovie also has a library of free sound that can be
used in any film, which allowed us to use ambient
sounds such as when in the library.
• The physical editing and cutting of scenes was also
very easy in iMovie as we could just select the parts
we did not want and press delete.
• Another positive of iMovie is that we were allowed to
edit the film we made, without altering any of the
original files.

3. SLIDESHARE - PRESENTATION
For the presentation of some data in my evaluation I have chosen to use the
website slideshare.com. This website allows me to upload a PowerPoint
presentation and then gives me the ability to embed it into my blog. This is
good because it allows me to present things such as the audience feedback or
the answer to a question in an exciting and different way than just having text.
Slideshare was very easy to use, once I had an account I just created a
PowerPoint presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint software and then uploaded
it, copied and pasted the segment of code into the relevant field on WordPress
and it was instantly available to view on my blog.
4. WordPress – Research and Planning
Positive
• Allows for many customizable features such as
themes which allowed it to most suit the market
of our film.
• The page layout customization options were also
very advanced, allowing me to make it easy to
navigate around the different parts of my page
• It did not have to just be used in one place. I
could log in from home or from anywhere and I
would be able to edit and update all of my posts
• It was easy to add medias into my posts which in
turn allowed me to make a more interactive and
easier explanation.
• WordPress also has a mobile app which allowed
me to edit and adjust my blog on the go.
Negative
• There are a limited number of things that can be
done on a free account. The page cannot be self
coded and you have to stick to the limited
amount of free themes that they provide
• There are many problems when it comes to
uploading media with some images being lost
when the page loads.
• The loading speed of the website can sometimes
be slow. This may be due to the advanced nature
of some aspects of the site.
• The spell check option is not very advanced.
There are some Media related words that it does
not recognise and normally try's to correct
English words to be spelt the American way.
5. PHOTOSHOP – IMAGE EDITING
For the editing and composition of our film poster and magazine
review, we used Adobe Photoshop CS6. This program provided us
with many advanced editing techniques. Being a regular user of
Photoshop I knew how to use the program already, so I knew
what tools to use to achieve which effects.
The picture we chose to use for our poster was originally too
short to be able to fit any worthy information in the space
around our character. I felt that the space on the left of Jimmy
was unneeded so therefore I cut it, but this did not fix the
problem of the lack of space for information.
To fix this problem I made the Photoshop canvas to the correct
size to have enough information then used the content aware fill
tool to fill the rest of the canvas with a source from the white
space of the actual image.

6. CAMERA - FILMING
For the shooting of our film we used a Canon 5D
mark II. This advanced piece of equipment allowed
us to obtain some very professional shots. We
chose to use this DSLR to shoot our film because
shooting in a digital format saves both time and
money, and also provides room to be able to make
mistakes in order to create our perfect scene.
Shooting our film with this camera led to some
really good, high definition footage. This high
definition video allows us to keep up with the ever
evolving standard of video and makes sure our
video looks very good, clean and sharp.
7. YOUTUBE – RESEARCH & PRESENTATION
YouTube was a very helpful website in the research stages and the
presentation of my research and film stages.
When on YouTube I needed to do some research into other short
films to find out what a short film normally consists of. Doing this
through YouTube was really easy, they have a huge library of user
made videos, and tons of short movies available to watch.
YouTube also has a feature where I can embed the videos directly
into my WordPress page which allows me to give better
explanations and deeper analysis of short films in general. This
feature also allowed me to put the YouTube video directly onto my
blog so that my audience can watch the film without going onto a
different site.
Uploading our own video was really simple and easy, we did
decide to go for the 1080p HD upload which did take a while, but I
think was a good decision as it allows for a better viewing of our
film.
