Residential Living
Living on Campus: FAQs
What are the Residence Halls like?
There are currently three traditional residence halls
on campus, Bell Hall, Carlisle Hall, and Hart Hall, and one
suite-style residence hall, Living Learning Center (LLC).
The “res halls” are located adjacent to each other and are
quite close to the dining hall, making it convenient to visit
friends and go to meals. The traditional halls each have
nine floors that are either male or female, with about 16
rooms on each hall. Each floor has its own single gender
bathroom with showers, toilets and sinks. There is a
student Resident Assistant (RA) on every floor serves as a
mentor and resource for those who live on campus. The
Darling Learning Center (DLC) features classrooms on the
first floor topped with Living Learning Center (LLC), four
floors of suite-style living opportunities for upper-class
students and graduate students. Two RAs live and work
on each floor of the LLC, providing a resource for the
residents of the building.
What comes with the room?
Each room is furnished with two twin beds and
mattresses, two desk chairs, two closets, two bureaus,
two study desks, and two book cases. New in 2014-15,
each room will also be equipped with a combination
MicroChill® unit – you don’t need to bring a microwave or
refrigerator. The room dimensions are 11’7” x 15’7”. Your
window measurements are 72” wide x 65” long, and it will
have blinds. You can make the room “your own” and we
encourage you to bring lots of pictures and decorations!
The LLC are gendered by suites, with four students
living in each suite. Each suite contains two double
bedrooms, a common area, sink and vanity area and a
bathroom with a toilet and shower. The double rooms
contain two twin beds and mattresses, two dressers, two
wardrobes, two study desks and two chairs. The common
area comes equipped with three upholstered chairs that
can be pushed together to make a couch and an ottoman
that can be used in a similar manner.
The bed rooms have a shade for the window and the
common area has blinds. The bathroom comes with a
shower curtain and towel rack.
date roommate and residence hall preferences but reserves
the right to assign students or make changes after assign-
ments have been announced based upon overall needs of the
University. Living on-campus with a roommate is the best way
to learn about living in a community and to make new friends
If a medical reason necessitates a single room placement,
please contact the Office of Residence Life in order to provide
the proper documentation; the review of provided documenta-
tion is conducted by our Student Health Center and a determi-
nation will be made.
Can I choose my own roommate(s)?
When filling out your housing preference, you may
complete the roommate request field. Both applicants must
request each other in this section. The Office of Residence Life
will attempt to accommodate roommate requests; however,
fully vacant rooms are limited and not all requests can be
guaranteed.
Can I have a fridge
in my room?
Each res hall room is equipped with a MicroChill®.
This is a combination refrigerator and microwave unit that
is provided for each room on campus. It is recommended
that you communicate with your roommate to bring a mini
fridge to campus, as it is a particularly useful appliance.
Just be certain the unit is less than three cubic feet.
Only one additional unit is permitted in addition to the
MicroChill® that is already provided.
Are there Internet
connections in the residence
hall rooms?
Yes, there is high speed Internet in each room,
which can be accessed through the Wi-Fi system or by
connecting through the Ethernet ports. All students are
provided with a campus email account as well. You can
find out anything you need to know about residential
networking services on campus by contacting the Help
Desk or IRO at 207.941.1000 or helpdesk@husson.edu
Do you have a residency
requirement?
Yes. All first- and second-year students, not living
at home within a 30 mile radius, are required to live on
campus. This is evaluated based on the number of credits
that a student has completed, meaning a resident must
achieve 54 credit hours before they will be approved to
live off campus. For upperclass students, the residence
halls are often still the right choice due to the amenities
provided, the ability to eat in the dining hall, and direct
access to the variety of co-curricular, recreational, and
athletic programs offered to students.
Do I need to bring a phone with me?
Residence hall rooms are no longer equipped to support
phones. It is advised that students bring a cellular device.
Will I have a roommate?
If you are a first-year student, you will have a roommate;
either assigned based on your preferences or your
requested roommate. Husson does its best to accommo-

Residential Living
What should I do if I don’t get
my chosen roommate?
Try it out! This will be a great opportunity to expose
yourself to a new living situation and learn quite a bit about
yourself. Many students come to college not knowing other
students and will also need to form new connections.
If the living situation that you are placed in does not
work out, room changes may be accommodated after the
Add/Drop period and up until two weeks before the end of
the semester. Contacting a Resident Assistant (RA) or the
Resident Director (RD) will start the process of attempting
to reconcile with your roommate and, if necessary, begin
the room change process.
Not all requests to change rooms can be accommodated
based upon University needs.
Who do I talk to if I am having
a problem with my roommate,
(i.e. noise, guest sleeping over,
other issues)?
First, talk to your roommate. Most likely they are not
aware that their actions are causing you concern.
Second, ask for assistance from the Resident Assistant
(RA) on your floor. Very often, the Residence Life staff
can help resolve your problem, usually by facilitating a
meeting between you and your roommate. The process
of mediation will include the Roommate Agreement which
outlines expectations of both roommates.
Third, mutually agree with your roommate to start the
process of a room change. The Residence Life staff can
assist you with the procedures and paperwork. Everyone
must receive approval from the Office of Residence Life
before changing rooms.
Can I bring my car?
All students are welcome to bring their cars to campus;
however, there is a registration fee. Husson University
Safety and Security distributes the decals for residential
students. The cost is $75 for the academic year and you
will need your license and registration to obtain the decal.
Resident parking is located in Lots 10, 11, 12 and 13 – all
located behind the traditional residence halls.
No parking is allowed in areas designated for commuters,
faculty, staff and visitors.
Where can I study and hang
out with friends?
Each residence hall contains a number of lounges,
furnished to accommodate work and social interactions.
The library is located in Peabody Hall, near the residence
halls, and provides a quiet place for study. The Campus
Center is a popular location for group work and hanging
out with friends, as the Cressy Marketplace and Willey’s
Café are located nearby. The Furman Student Center is
also available in Peabody Hall and has flat screen TVs,
pool tables, ping pong, foosball and seating areas for
spending time with friends.
Are there vending machines?
There are multiple vending machines in each
residence hall and others throughout the campus.
Additionally, the Dickerman Dining Commons’ Grab and
Go program, Cressy’s Marketplace and Angelo’s in Bangor
provide dining options after the Dining Commons closes in
the evening.
Can I cook my own meals?
Yes, each room is equipped with a MicroChill®, a
combination refrigerator and microwave.
Can I have visitors in my
room?
Other students who live on campus are welcome to
visit, however access to buildings is restricted after 9:00
pm for safety reasons. Visitors who do not live on campus
or do not attend Husson must sign in with a Resident
Assistant if they plan to stay overnight. The student who
is serving as the host for the guest is held responsible for
the guest’s actions through the duration of their stay. It is
required that guests, after signing in, must carry their guest
pass as a form of identification while on campus. Overnight
guests are also welcome, but the residence hall policy
states that the guest may only stay for two consecutive
evenings and permission of your roommate is required.

Living in campus housing allows students to be a part of
our vibrant Husson campus community.
Besides being fun, it’s a great way to connect and
learn from people with different backgrounds and ideas. At
Husson, we think the campus life experience is so important,
we require every student from more than 30 miles away to
live on campus for their first two years. Before you know it,
you will have close friends, be involved in student activities,
intramurals, athletics, and come to think of Husson as your
home away from home.
OUR RESIDENCE HALLS
Bell, Hart and Carlisle Halls
These three residence halls are traditional halls, each
with up to 17 double-occupancy rooms on each floor.
The rooms are furnished with two extra-long twin beds,
two desks with chairs, two closets, two dressers and a
MicroChill® combination microwave/mini fridge. Laundry
facilities are available in each residence hall. Each hall is
located within close proximity of the Dickerman Dining
Center and classrooms.
Living Learning Center (LLC)
The upper levels of the Darling Learning Center
(DLC), known as the LLC, are home to 240 upper-class
students who experience the comforts of suite-style living.
Each furnished suite has two bedrooms, a MicroChill®
combination microwave/mini fridge and a shared living
space and bathroom. The building is eco-friendly and
is part of the University’s New Beginning Project, a
commitment to quality education, rich student life and care
for the environment.
Residence Hall Staff
Each residence hall is supervised by a Resident
Director (RD) who is responsible for the overall safety
and well-being of each of their residents. Each wing has
a Resident Assistant (RA), a current student who plans
various social events and ensures that room assignments
are being upheld and quiet hours (when applicable) are
being respected.
Along with your RD and RA, Husson Security Officers
are on duty 24 hours a day to safeguard the community.
STUDENT ACTIVITIES
Husson University’s Student Activities Office works to
enhance the student life experience by providing a wide
variety of activities and programs to engage and enrich
the campus community. Students are encouraged to get
involved in the many educational, social, recreational,
and cultural programs Husson offers. There are 50-plus
student clubs and organizations to become involved
with, opportunities to volunteer in the greater Bangor
community, or to create opportunities that interest you!
SWAN CENTER
The Clara Swan Center is committed to providing the
Husson community with the resources needed to foster a
physically healthy university. The Richard and Alice Trott
Fitness Studio is equipped with bikes, treadmills, ellipticals,
weight training machines and free weights. The facility
is open from 6:00 am – 8:00 pm with the hope that each
student will find time in their schedules to dedicate to their
personal health. Students are also able to participate in
group fitness classes such as Zumba and yoga which
are held in the lower level of the gym. Fitness classes
are included in the cost of tuition and are a great way to
broaden your social network.
COUNSELING CENTER
The counseling center offers time-limited individual,
group and couples counseling free to all students at
Husson University. We work with students who wish to
improve their mood and function, and offer assistance with
transitioning to college, managing stress, having difficulties
with relationships, mental health issues, or students who
just need a space to work through challenges.
STUDENT HEALTH CENTER
The Student Health Center provides confidential on-
campus health care and health resources to all Husson
students during the academic school year. We are
conveniently located on campus.
All Husson students are required to provide proof of
immunization. These rules are issued by the Commissioner
of The Department of Health and Human Services to
implement the provisions of the post-secondary school
immunization law (22 MRSA §6359).
It prescribes the dosage for required immunizations and
defines the chief administrative officer’s responsibilities,
exclusion periods, record keeping and reporting
requirements for school officials.
