I have a Plane HighSchool Diploma(PHD) fromClifton,HighSchool,Clifton,NJ,classof 1976. I joined
the UnitedStatesMarine Corps inDecember,1976. My plan wasto complete 4years honorablyandgo
back home.Iendedupstayinga little whilelongeruntil Oct31, 2005. I was a Motor Transport
Maintenance Officer,CWO5uponmyretirement andthe mostseniorMarine inmyMOS onactive duty.
I servedateverincreasinglevelsof commandandresponsibilityasthe yearswentby. I have servedin
War, Peace,Training,Staff,andCommandenvironments. Myfocusisalwayswhat isbestfor the Lance
Corporal on the Battlefield. Ihave developedprovenleadership,communication, written, andtechnical
skillsoverthese last nearly 38years. I have servedsuccessful toursof dutyatMarine CorpsSystems
Command,PMMotor Transport, and Marine CorpsCombatDevelopment Command,Logistics
IntegrationDivision(LID),aswell as, 7yearsas the Marine CorpsLogisticsCommandLNOto I MEF. I
have sat inthe same roomwiththe VCJCSas a backbencherto myboss while he briefedthe Mine
ResistantAmbushProtected(MRAP) Familyof Vehicles(FOV) programinitsearliestdaystoseniorDOD
leadership. Onthe otherhandI have servedalongside fine youngMarinesinbunkersatCommando
Camp,Kuwaitas ammunitionexplodedoverourheadsandreassuredthemthateverythingwouldbe
okay.On March 19, 2003 we were usheredintothe bunkers12timesin24 hours,sat for longperiodin
MOPP level 4, andhad a Chinese SilkwormMissile explode justoutside ourfrontgate. These are buta
fewexperiencesthathave shapedandmoldedme over time. Thishelped tosuperfocusme on
equipmentreadinessandthe importance of peopleandtraining.
It took over30 yearsbefore I had mybottom chewedbyACMC, however, Iwashanded the taskof
writingrequirements forMRAPand 24 hourslaterI was sittingwiththe ACMCand DC, P&R askingfor
Billionsof dollarsonaprogram that hadnot evenbeensetupyet. To say the leastitwas notinitially
well receivedhowever,eventuallythe tideturnedandmanyliveswere savedincombatoverthe next8
years.
I had the distincthonorto brief the LogisticsVehicleSystemReplacement(LVSR)atthe Pentagonthat
leadto an MROC decisiontofund development, purchase,andfield the LVSRvehiclesystem. The LVSR
has provenitself onthe battlefieldsof IraqandAfghanistanasa logisticsforce multiplier.
LOGCOM hiredme as the firstMEF level LNOat IMEF. I wasa GS-14 at MCCDC and a Branch Head and
tooka reductioningrade to a GS-13 inorderto take this new billet intotallyunchartedwater. Ithas
beenanamazing7 yearsto say least.Ourteamjust completedresettingIMEF ground tactical
equipmentasitreturnedfromAfghanistan onMay 31, 2014 andissued fullyoperational Marine
Equipment(ME) to unitswithoutsendingtheseselectassets throughthe Depot.Over4,000 itemshave
beenresetandissued toI MEF units overthe past2.5 years. This type of forwardresettingof ME had
neverbeenattemptedpreviouslyhowever,waslaudedasa greatsuccess. Additional experiencescanbe

confidentwhetherdressedinatailoredsuitorblue jeans. Iam equallycomfortabletalkingtoLCpl’s
because Iwas one in1978, or Congressmen,Senators,General andAdmirals,SES’sandGS-15’s,
because I have servedinaroundall of these levelsof leadership aswell overthe years andfigure we all
put our clothesonthe same way. I have no political aspirationsandsee thingsclearlyinthe blackand
white.Iwill nottickle anyone’s earsandsense immediatelyif someoneisattemptingtotickle myears.
Bad newsdoesnotimprove withage soI will elevatethe issue immediatelyandaccuratelydepicted. I
knowwhatis bestforthe groundequipmentportfolioof ourMarine Corpsand have spentnearly 38
yearspreparingforthisbillet. Idon’thave a college degreeandthatmay immediatelyeliminate me. I
am payingmydime and takingmychance because Ican. Please letme know soonestif Idon’tmake the
cut so I can get onto the next adventure.Inthe meantime Iam100% engagedwhere Iamcurrently
employed.Ihave writtenthisletteron mytime and notwhile atwork forthe command andthe
country. In closing;My wife andI didnotknow anythingaboutavocadogrowing5 yearsago whenwe
purchaseda home,withnearly4acres and 200 plus30 yearoldtrees, that we learnedovertime and
have become mildly successfulat. Atage 56, I am ingood healthandhave competedinaTough
Mudder,Spartan,½ Marathon (1 Hour 53 Min) and the Camp PendletonMudRuninthe last 9 months. I
trulylookforwardto gettingupand goingto workeveryday.I feel nosense of slowingdownandknow
that there are otherchallengesoutthere forme evenif itisnot thisone.
