I will worship toward thy holy temple, and
praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and
for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word
above all thy name. (Psalm 138:2)
Overview of this Presentation
The King James Bible is greater than
modern English Versions because –
1. It has superior TEXTS.
2. It has superior TRANSLATORS.

INTRODUCTION
The Books of the Hebrew Bible (Tanakh)
According to Jewish tradition, the Tanakh or Jewish Bible consists of 24
canonical books. A slightly different accounting can be found in the book
Against Apion, by the 1st-century Jewish historian Josephus, who listed
only 22 sacred books because he considered Ruth as part of Judges, and
Lamentations as part of Jeremiah.
TORAH ( 5 Books )
Torah literally means "teaching.” It consists of the first five books of the
Bible, commonly referred to as the Pentateuch or the Five Books of Moses.
1. Genesis [Breishit]
2. Exodus [Shmot]
3. Leviticus [Vayikra]
4. Numbers [Bamidbar]
5. Deuteronomy [D'varim]

INTRODUCTION
 The KJB has superior underlying Hebrew text – the Masoretic
Text (MT). The Masoretic Text is the official Hebrew text of the
Jewish Bible (Tanakh). It defines not just the 24 books of the
Jewish Canon, but also the precise letter-text of the biblical
books in Judaism, as well as their corresponding vocalization
and accentuation for both public reading and private study.
 The Jews through their Levitical priesthood were to be the
exclusive custodians of the OT Hebrew text. God NEVER gave that
unique privilege and responsibility of guarding the OT text to
the Greeks, Romans or any other Gentiles (Rom. 3:1-2).
 We believe that the Traditional Masoretic Hebrew Text that
underlies the KJB OT is the most faithful and identical text to the
original Hebrew autographs.

 God's appointed guardians of the Old Testament Text were the Jews
according to Romans 3:1-2, "What advantage then hath the Jew? or
what profit is there in circumcision? Much in every way: chiefly,
because that unto them were committed the oracles of God."
 The methods used by the Jews in fulfilling their responsibilities as the
guardians of these sacred texts is an interesting study. There were
Eight Rules that the Jewish copyists used in the copying of the texts:
1. The parchment must be made from the skin of a clean animal
(clean meaning ceremonially clean according to the OT sanitary
laws); must be prepared by a Jew only, and the skins must be
fastened together by strings taken from clean animals.
2. Each column must have no less than forty-eight, nor more than
sixty lines. The entire copy must be first lined.

3. The ink must be of no other color than black, and it must be
prepared according to a special recipe.
4. No word nor letter could be written from memory; the scribe must
have an authentic copy before him, and he must read and
pronounce aloud each word before writing it.
5. He must reverently wipe his pen each time before writing the word
for "God" (Elohim), and he must wash his whole body before
writing the name "Jehovah" (LORD in our King James Bibles), lest
the Holy Name be contaminated!
6. Strict rules were given concerning forms of the letters, spaces
between letters, words and sections, the use of the pen, the color
of the parchment, etc.

7. The revision (to correct any errors) of a roll must be made within
thirty days after the work was finished; otherwise it was
worthless. One mistake on a sheet condemned the entire sheet. If
three mistakes were found on any page, the entire manuscript
was condemned!
8. Every word and every letter was counted, and if a letter was
omitted, or if an extra letter was inserted, or if two letters touched
one another, the manuscript was condemned and destroyed at
once!
 Some of these rules may appear extreme and absurd, yet they show
how sacred the Holy Word of the Old Testament was to its custodians,
the Jews, and they give us strong encouragement to believe that we
have the real Old Testament, the same one that our Lord had and
which was given by inspiration of God.

INTRODUCTION
 There are two existing basic texts in Hebrew;
the true one, edited by Abraham Ben Chayyim,
and the false one, edited by Aaron Ben Asher.
 The true text of Ben Chayyim on which our KJB
is based is called the Daniel Bomberg edition
or the Second Great Rabbinic Bible (1524-25).
This Traditional Masoretic Hebrew text was
the undisputed Hebrew text for 400 years.

INTRODUCTION
 The Ben Asher Text is reflected in Rudolf Kittel's Biblia Hebraica (BHK)
(1937) with all suggested footnotes, as well as in the Stuttgart edition
of Biblia Hebraica (BHS) (1967-77) with all suggested footnotes.
 Both of these false Biblia Hebraicas (BHK & BHS) suggest in their
footnotes about 15-20 changes per page. This adds up to 20,000 to
30,000 total changes in the whole Hebrew OT text. Yet the BHK and the
BHS are used as the basis for the OT in most modern versions.
 Aside from using the BHK and BHS for their OT basis, modern Bible
perversions also resort to inferior and corrupted OT text sources like
the: Septuagint (LXX), Vaticanus, Sinaiticus, Latin Vulgate, Syriac, Dead
Sea Scrolls, Targums, Samaritan Pentateuch, and quotations from
unsaved scholars like Jerome, Aquila, Symmachus, Theodotion,
Josephus, etc.
The Aleppo Codex is a
medieval manuscript of the
Hebrew Bible (Tanakh),
associated with Rabbi Aaron
Ben Asher. The Masoretic
scholars wrote it in the early
10th century, probably in
Tiberias, Israel. It is in book
form and contains the vowel
points and grammar points
(nikkudot) that specify the
pronunciation of the ancient
Hebrew letters to preserve the
chanting tradition. It is one of
the most important Hebrew
manuscript in existence but it
departs from the Traditional
Masoretic Hebrew text!
The KJB has superior underlying Greek text called the Textus Receptus. This
correctly implies that the various versions of the Bible have inferior Greek texts.
We believe that the Textus Receptus that underlies the KJB NT (as opposed to the
Wescott and Hort Greek Text) is the most faithful and identical text to the
original Greek autographs. Notice the changes that have been made in the TR –
Textus Receptus
Westcott & Hort
Changes in the TR
Has 140,521 Greek words Changes 5,604 places in the NT
Has 647 pages in Greek Text Changes include 9,970 Greek words
Has 217 Greek words per page Changes 15.4 Greek words per page
Has 100% of the Greek words Changes 7% of the Greek words
Has all 647 pages unchanged Changes a total of 45.9 pages in Greek text
Notice that there are 5,604 changes made in the Textus Receptus NT consisting
of almost 10,000 Greek words that are different in the Westcott and Hort Greek
NT. Yet this corrupt Westcott and Hort Greek Text was the basis for almost all of
the modern English NT versions including the ERV, ASV, NIV, NASV, NKJV, RSV, NRSV,
TEV, ESV, CEV, NCV, NAB, NJB, NLT, and the rest.

On which of the two kinds of Greek text has God preserved His word?
Obviously, God has KEPT and PRESERVED His words in the 99% of the MSS
evidence, rather than in the 1%. By very definition, this is PRESERVATION.
The fulfillment of God's promise to “KEEP" and “PRESERVE” His words
(Psa. 12:6-7) is to be found in the 99% of the manuscripts we have today.
And these 99% support the Greek Text that underlies the KJB, and NOT
the Greek text that underlies the modern versions and perversions!
Many Christians complain that the King James Bible is too difficult to read
so much so that they cannot understand it.
Observing the Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level Index (a computer program
neutral on this subject), you will find readability levels for the KJB, NIV,
NASV, NKJV, and TEV. The chart below shows that the KJB is easier to
understand provided you can read at a 6th grade level. Modern versions
are not only less accurate but also less readable than the KJB!!

1. HEBREW – God's word was first given in Hebrew. The text that the Old
Testament in the KJB is translated from is the Masoretic Hebrew Text.
2. ARAMAIC – Also called Chaldean or Old Syriac, a few portions of the OT
were written in this language. Parts of Daniel and parts of Ezra were in
Aramaic. The reason for this is that the children of Israel were held in
captivity for 70 years in Babylon during that period.
3. GREEK – The Atic Koine (common) Greek of the Textus Receptus (as
opposed to Classical Greek) is the authoritative text of the KJB NT. As
always, God preserved his word in the language of common people.
4. OLD SYRIAC – Once the Old and New Testament MSS were gathered in
Antioch of Syria, they were translated into the Peshitta ("simple" or
"easily understood”). This was the first time that the whole Bible
came together in one language. This was around A.D. 100.

5. OLD LATIN – God’s word was translated into this language by A.D. 210
by true African believers. This common language swept through
Eastern Europe and the Balkans. It was in use for 1400 years.
6. GERMAN – About the time of the Protestant Reformation, Martin
Luther translated Erasmus’ 2nd edition Greek Textus Receptus into
the German tongue. This complete Bible was called the "Die Heilige
Schrift“ (The Holy Scriptures). Luther's Bible was the first complete
translation from the original languages into what was then the
modern language of Europe. This was completed in A.D. 1534 .
7. ENGLISH – The seventh and final language path of preservation was
English. The crowning work of translation into the English language
was the King James Authorized Version of 1611. God providentially
allowed this translation to take place in England – a seafaring
nation so that it could be easily distributed into the whole world.

The Path of Bible Preservation in Seven English Versions
 Advocates of modern translations often assume that their
versions are the product of scholarship far superior to that of
the KJB, but this assumption is not supported by the facts.
 The learned men who labored on the KJB were men of genius and
exceptional ability! Although they differed among themselves
on many matters of church order, administration and doctrine,
they carefully approached their task with reverence to the
divine inspiration, authority and inerrancy of the holy scriptures.
 To the translators of the KJB their work was "God’s sacred Truth"
and demanded the exercise of their utmost care and fidelity in
its translation. Originally, 54 men were nominated but only 47
were known to have taken part in the actual work of translation.
His Royal Majesty… King James I of England & VI of Scotland
 One of the first things done by King James I was the calling of the
Hampton Court Conference in January 1604 to hear and attend to issues
raised against the Church of England in the Puritan Millenary Petition.
Here were assembled Anglican bishops, clergymen, professors, along
with four Puritan theologians to consider complaints of the Puritans.
 Although Bible revision was not on their agenda, the Puritan president
of Corpus Christi College, John Reynolds, moved his Majesty, that there
might be a new translation of the Bible, because those which were
allowed in the reigns of Henry VIII and Edward VI were corrupt and not
answerable to the truth of the scriptures.
 Accordingly, a resolution came forth: "That a translation be made of the
whole Bible, as consonant as can be to the original Hebrew and Greek;
and this to be set out and printed, without any marginal notes, and only
to be used in all churches of England in time of divine service.”
 In July 1604, King James had “appointed certain learned men, to the
number of four and fifty, for the translating of the Bible." These men
were some of Europe’s greatest scholars and linguists.
Hampton Court Royal Palace
 The KJB translators were organized into six working groups, and met
respectively at Westminster, Cambridge and Oxford.
 Ten translators at Westminster were assigned the books of Genesis
through 2 Kings; seven translators had Romans through Jude.
 At Cambridge, eight worked on the books of 1 Chronicles through the
Song of Solomon, while seven others handled the Apocrypha.
 Oxford employed seven scholars to translate the books of Isaiah
through Malachi; eight occupied themselves with the Gospels, Acts,
and Revelation.
 Between 1604-11 these greatest of scholars labored painstakingly.
Four years were spent alone on the preliminary translation and
another three years for the review, revision and printing of the KJB.

A Very Brief Sketch of Some Scholars Behind the KJB
Dr. LANCELOT ANDREWES. He had mastered 21 European and Oriental
languages. It is said that if Dr. Andrews had been present at the confusion
of tongues at the tower of Babel, he could have served as an interpreter.
Dr. WILLIAM BEDWELL. He was famed in Arabic, Mathematics and Oriental
learning. He left many Arabic manuscripts in the University of Cambridge,
with numerous notes and font types for printing them. To him belongs the
honor of being the first to promote and revive the study of Arabic in Europe.
Dr. MILES SMITH. He was an expert in Hebrew, Chaldee, Syriac, and Arabic.
They were almost as familiar to him as his native tongue. Dr. Smith went
through both the Greek and Latin church Fathers, making annotations on
them all. Dr. Smith wrote the most eloquent Preface of the KJB.
Dr. JOHN OVERALL. He was celebrated for the appropriateness of his
quotations from the Church Fathers. He had spoken Latin so long that it
was troublesome for him to speak continuous English in a lecture.
Dr. ADRIAN SARAVIA. He is often referred to as "that learned foreigner.”
Of Spanish descent, he assisted the translators with his knowledge of
the work of Spanish scholars. He was so proficient in Hebrew and Latin.
Prof. EDWARD LIVELY. He is commemorated as "one of the best linguists
in the world” during his time. So much dependence was placed on his
surpassing skill in the Oriental tongues. But his unexpected death in
May 1605, somewhat disappointed such expectations; and is said to
have considerably retarded the early stages of the translation work.
A Very Brief Sketch of Some Scholars Behind the KJB
Dr. LAWRENCE CHADERTON. He acquired a great reputation as a Latin,
Greek and Hebrew scholar and was also proficient in French, Spanish
and Italian. He was a noted Puritan and was a faithful preacher and
teacher. He lived to be 103 years old and almost to the time of his death
he was able to read his small type Greek New Testament.
Dr. THOMAS HOLLAND. He had a wonderful knowledge of all the scholarly
languages, and of all arts and sciences. He was so acquainted with the
Church Fathers, as if he himself had been one of them. Like Apollos, he
was mighty in the Scriptures, and like the Apostle Paul, he was faithful
in explaining them. He lived what he preached to others. He was most
strongly opposed to Rome and papacy.
A Very Brief Sketch of Some Scholars Behind the KJB
Dr. RICHARD BRETT. He was greatly skilled and equipped to do evaluation
in the Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Chaldee, Arabic, and Ethiopic tongues. He
was renowned in his time for vast attainments, as well as revered for
his piety. It is recorded of him, that he was a most vigilant pastor, a
diligent preacher of God's word, a generous benefactor to the poor, and
a faithful friend, and a good neighbor.
Dr. JOHN SPENCER. At 19 years old he was already a Greek lecturer. Of his
eminent scholarship there can be no question. He became a popular
preacher, a college president, and one of King James' chaplains.
Dr. ROGER FENTON. He was one of the popular scholarly preachers of his
day. He was loved by his congregation for his learning and spirituality.
A Very Brief Sketch of Some Scholars Behind the KJB
A Very Brief Sketch of the Scholars Behind the KJB
Sir HENRY SAVILLE. He was very proficient in Greek and Mathematics.
He became a royal tutor in these two subjects to Queen Elizabeth I.
He was a very profound scholar and was an expert in Astronomy.
Prof. JOHN BOIS. He was expert in Hebrew as well as Greek. He
studied at his father's knee. At the age of five, he had read the whole
Bible IN HEBREW!! At the age of six, John Bois was able to write
Hebrew in a clear and elegant style. He was held in the highest
esteem and second to none in attainments in the Greek tongue.
The TRANSLATORS in GENERAL. These great men of learning were
also men of God. They had mastered English as well as Hebrew and
Greek. They also knew the related languages that shed light on the
Hebrew and Greek like Aramaic, Arabic, Persian, Coptic, Syriac, etc.
 The KJB has a far superior translation technique. This
correctly implies that the various versions and perversions of
the Bible have inferior translation technique.
 The KJB employed the superior technique of Formal Equivalence,
NOT the Dynamic Equivalence used by modern perversions.
 Formal Equivalence means that words are rendered LITERALLY from
Hebrew into English and LITERALLY from Greek into English. The KJB
translators brought over the very meaning and forms of the Hebrew
and Greek words into English. They did NOT add their ideas into the
translation and did NOT transform the grammar. They did NOT take a
noun and make a verb out of it and vice-versa.
 Thus, the KJB has faithfully preserved the peculiar “Hebraism” of
the OT and the unique “Grecoism” of the NT.
 What is Dynamic Equivalency? Those who use this inferior technique
are in effect paraphrasing the word of God rather than translating it.
 Paraphrasing means to use a thought or concept that is along side the
real literal meaning. It is to state something in OTHER WORDS.
 The bottom line for such a false technique is that it freely gives a
translator the right to ADD, SUBTRACT or CHANGE God's words which is a
sin that God warns us about repeatedly.
 Research showed that The NKJV has over 2,000 examples of dynamic
equivalency. In a similar study of the NASV, over 4,000 such cases were
found while in the NIV were found over 6,650 cases.
 God has preserved His words in English via the far superior techniques
of formal and verbal equivalences as carefully employed in the KJB.

 It is claimed by those who use the new versions of the Bible that
there is no difference in any of them when it comes to theology.
It is also said that there is no difference in any of the Greek
texts in the matter of theology. This is even said by those who
are looked up to as Bible believing leaders and celebrities!
 These men assume that the textual variants between the two
basic Greek texts (TR & W&H) do not affect theology or doctrine.
They suppose that the false Westcott and Hort Greek text (when
compared to the Received Text of the KJB) contains nothing that
is theologically deficient or doctrinally incorrect. THIS IS FALSE!
 These men also imagine that the modern English versions do
not contain changes from the KJB that affect theology or
doctrine. They believe that you can take any modern English
version you wish and when you compare it to the KJB, that
version does not have anything in it that is theologically
deficient or doctrinally incorrect. THIS IS ALSO FALSE!

John 3:15 (KJB)
That whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have eternal life.
Vaticanus, Sinaiticus and new versions REMOVED the three words, "should
not perish.” So, in the false English versions, there's no Hell in John 3:15.
NIV that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.
NASV that whoever believes may in Him have eternal life.
TEV so that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.
NRSV that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
NCV So that everyone who believes can have eternal life in him.
ESV that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father,
the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
Vaticanus, Sinaiticus and modern versions have denied sound
doctrine by ELIMINATING the clearest scripture reference to the Trinity.

Mark 16:9 – 20 (KJB)
Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary
Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils. And she went and told them that had been
with him, as they mourned and wept. And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had
been seen of her, believed not. After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as
they walked, and went into the country. And they went and told it unto the residue: neither
believed they them. Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and
upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them
which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and
preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he
that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my
name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up
serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the
sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up
into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where,
the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
Vaticanus and Sinaiticus deleted these last 12 verses of Mark. Modern versions question
the authenticity of these 12 verses in their footnotes or by enclosing them in [ brackets ].

John 7:53 – 8:11 (KJB)
And every man went unto his own house. Jesus went unto the mount of Olives. And early
in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he
sat down, and taught them. And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman
taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, They say unto him, Master, this
woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that
such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him, that they
might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the
ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up
himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at
her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being
convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even
unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When
Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman,
where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord.
And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
Vaticanus and Sinaiticus deleted these 12 verses of John. Modern versions question the
authenticity of these 12 verses in their footnotes or by enclosing them in [ brackets ].
SOME CLOSING THOUGHTS
 The course of history has made English a worldwide language
which is now the native tongue of over 300 million people and
the second language of many millions more.
 The KJB is known the world over and is more widely read than
any other translation of the scriptures.
 The KJB has been used by many missionaries as a basis and
guide for their own translation work and in this way has
extended its influence even to converts who know no English.
 For 400 years the reverent diction of the KJB has been used by
the Holy Spirit to bring the word of life to millions of souls.
 Surely this is a God-guided translation on which God, working
providentially, has placed the stamp of His approval.
I will worship toward thy holy temple, and
praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and
for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word
above all thy name. (Psalm 138:2)

The Masoretic Text is the official Hebrew text of the Jewish Bible (Tanakh). It defines not just the 24 books of the Jewish Canon, but also the precise letter-text of the biblical books in Judaism, as well as their corresponding vocalization and accentuation for both public reading and private study.  The Jews through their Levitical priesthood were to be the exclusive custodians of the OT Hebrew text. God NEVER gave that unique privilege and responsibility of guarding the OT text to the Greeks, Romans or any other Gentiles (Rom. 3:1-2).  We believe that the Traditional Masoretic Hebrew Text that underlies the KJB OT is the most faithful and identical text to the original Hebrew autographs.

Much in every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God."  The methods used by the Jews in fulfilling their responsibilities as the guardians of these sacred texts is an interesting study. There were Eight Rules that the Jewish copyists used in the copying of the texts: 1. The parchment must be made from the skin of a clean animal (clean meaning ceremonially clean according to the OT sanitary laws); must be prepared by a Jew only, and the skins must be fastened together by strings taken from clean animals. 2. Each column must have no less than forty-eight, nor more than sixty lines. The entire copy must be first lined.

No word nor letter could be written from memory; the scribe must have an authentic copy before him, and he must read and pronounce aloud each word before writing it. 5. He must reverently wipe his pen each time before writing the word for "God" (Elohim), and he must wash his whole body before writing the name "Jehovah" (LORD in our King James Bibles), lest the Holy Name be contaminated! 6. Strict rules were given concerning forms of the letters, spaces between letters, words and sections, the use of the pen, the color of the parchment, etc.

The revision (to correct any errors) of a roll must be made within thirty days after the work was finished; otherwise it was worthless. One mistake on a sheet condemned the entire sheet. If three mistakes were found on any page, the entire manuscript was condemned! 8. Every word and every letter was counted, and if a letter was omitted, or if an extra letter was inserted, or if two letters touched one another, the manuscript was condemned and destroyed at once!  Some of these rules may appear extreme and absurd, yet they show how sacred the Holy Word of the Old Testament was to its custodians, the Jews, and they give us strong encouragement to believe that we have the real Old Testament, the same one that our Lord had and which was given by inspiration of God.

This adds up to 20,000 to 30,000 total changes in the whole Hebrew OT text. Yet the BHK and the BHS are used as the basis for the OT in most modern versions.  Aside from using the BHK and BHS for their OT basis, modern Bible perversions also resort to inferior and corrupted OT text sources like the: Septuagint (LXX), Vaticanus, Sinaiticus, Latin Vulgate, Syriac, Dead Sea Scrolls, Targums, Samaritan Pentateuch, and quotations from unsaved scholars like Jerome, Aquila, Symmachus, Theodotion, Josephus, etc.

We believe that the Textus Receptus that underlies the KJB NT (as opposed to the Wescott and Hort Greek Text) is the most faithful and identical text to the original Greek autographs. Notice the changes that have been made in the TR – Textus Receptus Westcott & Hort Changes in the TR Has 140,521 Greek words Changes 5,604 places in the NT Has 647 pages in Greek Text Changes include 9,970 Greek words Has 217 Greek words per page Changes 15.4 Greek words per page Has 100% of the Greek words Changes 7% of the Greek words Has all 647 pages unchanged Changes a total of 45.9 pages in Greek text Notice that there are 5,604 changes made in the Textus Receptus NT consisting of almost 10,000 Greek words that are different in the Westcott and Hort Greek NT. Yet this corrupt Westcott and Hort Greek Text was the basis for almost all of the modern English NT versions including the ERV, ASV, NIV, NASV, NKJV, RSV, NRSV, TEV, ESV, CEV, NCV, NAB, NJB, NLT, and the rest.

  • 22. 1. HEBREW – God's word was first given in Hebrew. The text that the Old Testament in the KJB is translated from is the Masoretic Hebrew Text. 2. ARAMAIC – Also called Chaldean or Old Syriac, a few portions of the OT were written in this language. Parts of Daniel and parts of Ezra were in Aramaic. The reason for this is that the children of Israel were held in captivity for 70 years in Babylon during that period. 3. GREEK – The Atic Koine (common) Greek of the Textus Receptus (as opposed to Classical Greek) is the authoritative text of the KJB NT. As always, God preserved his word in the language of common people. 4. OLD SYRIAC – Once the Old and New Testament MSS were gathered in Antioch of Syria, they were translated into the Peshitta ("simple" or "easily understood”). This was the first time that the whole Bible came together in one language. This was around A.D. 100. The Path of Bible Preservation in Seven Languages

This common language swept through Eastern Europe and the Balkans. It was in use for 1400 years. 6. GERMAN – About the time of the Protestant Reformation, Martin Luther translated Erasmus’ 2nd edition Greek Textus Receptus into the German tongue. This complete Bible was called the "Die Heilige Schrift“ (The Holy Scriptures). Luther's Bible was the first complete translation from the original languages into what was then the modern language of Europe. This was completed in A.D. 1534 . 7. ENGLISH – The seventh and final language path of preservation was English. The crowning work of translation into the English language was the King James Authorized Version of 1611. God providentially allowed this translation to take place in England – a seafaring nation so that it could be easily distributed into the whole world.

Although they differed among themselves on many matters of church order, administration and doctrine, they carefully approached their task with reverence to the divine inspiration, authority and inerrancy of the holy scriptures.  To the translators of the KJB their work was "God’s sacred Truth" and demanded the exercise of their utmost care and fidelity in its translation. Originally, 54 men were nominated but only 47 were known to have taken part in the actual work of translation.
  • 29. His Royal Majesty… King James I of England & VI of Scotland
  • 30.  One of the first things done by King James I was the calling of the Hampton Court Conference in January 1604 to hear and attend to issues raised against the Church of England in the Puritan Millenary Petition. Here were assembled Anglican bishops, clergymen, professors, along with four Puritan theologians to consider complaints of the Puritans.  Although Bible revision was not on their agenda, the Puritan president of Corpus Christi College, John Reynolds, moved his Majesty, that there might be a new translation of the Bible, because those which were allowed in the reigns of Henry VIII and Edward VI were corrupt and not answerable to the truth of the scriptures.  Accordingly, a resolution came forth: "That a translation be made of the whole Bible, as consonant as can be to the original Hebrew and Greek; and this to be set out and printed, without any marginal notes, and only to be used in all churches of England in time of divine service.”  In July 1604, King James had “appointed certain learned men, to the number of four and fifty, for the translating of the Bible." These men were some of Europe’s greatest scholars and linguists.
  • 32.  The KJB translators were organized into six working groups, and met respectively at Westminster, Cambridge and Oxford.  Ten translators at Westminster were assigned the books of Genesis through 2 Kings; seven translators had Romans through Jude.  At Cambridge, eight worked on the books of 1 Chronicles through the Song of Solomon, while seven others handled the Apocrypha.  Oxford employed seven scholars to translate the books of Isaiah through Malachi; eight occupied themselves with the Gospels, Acts, and Revelation.  Between 1604-11 these greatest of scholars labored painstakingly. Four years were spent alone on the preliminary translation and another three years for the review, revision and printing of the KJB.

It is said that if Dr. Andrews had been present at the confusion of tongues at the tower of Babel, he could have served as an interpreter. Dr. WILLIAM BEDWELL. He was famed in Arabic, Mathematics and Oriental learning. He left many Arabic manuscripts in the University of Cambridge, with numerous notes and font types for printing them. To him belongs the honor of being the first to promote and revive the study of Arabic in Europe. Dr. MILES SMITH. He was an expert in Hebrew, Chaldee, Syriac, and Arabic. They were almost as familiar to him as his native tongue. Dr. Smith went through both the Greek and Latin church Fathers, making annotations on them all. Dr. Smith wrote the most eloquent Preface of the KJB.
  • 38. Dr. JOHN OVERALL. He was celebrated for the appropriateness of his quotations from the Church Fathers. Prof. EDWARD LIVELY. He is commemorated as "one of the best linguists in the world” during his time. So much dependence was placed on his surpassing skill in the Oriental tongues. But his unexpected death in May 1605, somewhat disappointed such expectations; and is said to have considerably retarded the early stages of the translation work. He was a noted Puritan and was a faithful preacher and teacher. He lived to be 103 years old and almost to the time of his death he was able to read his small type Greek New Testament. Dr. THOMAS HOLLAND. He had a wonderful knowledge of all the scholarly languages, and of all arts and sciences. He was so acquainted with the Church Fathers, as if he himself had been one of them. Like Apollos, he was mighty in the Scriptures, and like the Apostle Paul, he was faithful in explaining them. He lived what he preached to others. He was most strongly opposed to Rome and papacy. At 19 years old he was already a Greek lecturer. Of his eminent scholarship there can be no question. He became a popular preacher, a college president, and one of King James' chaplains. Dr. ROGER FENTON. He was one of the popular scholarly preachers of his day. He was loved by his congregation for his learning and spirituality. A Very Brief Sketch of Some Scholars Behind the KJB
  • 41. A Very Brief Sketch of the Scholars Behind the KJB Sir HENRY SAVILLE. He was very proficient in Greek and Mathematics. He became a royal tutor in these two subjects to Queen Elizabeth I. At the age of five, he had read the whole Bible IN HEBREW!! At the age of six, John Bois was able to write Hebrew in a clear and elegant style. He was held in the highest esteem and second to none in attainments in the Greek tongue. The TRANSLATORS in GENERAL. These great men of learning were also men of God. • 43.  The KJB has a far superior translation technique. This correctly implies that the various versions and perversions of the Bible have inferior translation technique.  The KJB employed the superior technique of Formal Equivalence, NOT the Dynamic Equivalence used by modern perversions.  Formal Equivalence means that words are rendered LITERALLY from Hebrew into English and LITERALLY from Greek into English. The KJB translators brought over the very meaning and forms of the Hebrew and Greek words into English. They did NOT add their ideas into the translation and did NOT transform the grammar. They did NOT take a noun and make a verb out of it and vice-versa.  Thus, the KJB has faithfully preserved the peculiar “Hebraism” of the OT and the unique “Grecoism” of the NT.
  • 44.  What is Dynamic Equivalency? Those who use this inferior technique are in effect paraphrasing the word of God rather than translating it.  Paraphrasing means to use a thought or concept that is along side the real literal meaning. It is to state something in OTHER WORDS.  The bottom line for such a false technique is that it freely gives a translator the right to ADD, SUBTRACT or CHANGE God's words which is a sin that God warns us about repeatedly.  Research showed that The NKJV has over 2,000 examples of dynamic equivalency. In a similar study of the NASV, over 4,000 such cases were found while in the NIV were found over 6,650 cases.  God has preserved His words in English via the far superior techniques of formal and verbal equivalences as carefully employed in the KJB.

And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and wept. And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not. After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country. And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them. Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen. And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. Vaticanus and Sinaiticus deleted these last 12 verses of Mark. Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her. And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst. When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. Vaticanus and Sinaiticus deleted these 12 verses of John. • 60. SOME CLOSING THOUGHTS  The course of history has made English a worldwide language which is now the native tongue of over 300 million people and the second language of many millions more.  The KJB is known the world over and is more widely read than any other translation of the scriptures.  The KJB has been used by many missionaries as a basis and guide for their own translation work and in this way has extended its influence even to converts who know no English.  For 400 years the reverent diction of the KJB has been used by the Holy Spirit to bring the word of life to millions of souls.  Surely this is a God-guided translation on which God, working providentially, has placed the stamp of His approval.
