The Certified Government Chief Information Officer™
(CGCIO™) program focuses on emerging technologies,
information security, ethics, contract management, interpersonal
communication, project and resource management, and
sustainability, among other related topics.
The Carl Vinson Institute of Government (CVIOG) has partnered
with Georgia Government Management Information Sciences
(GA GMIS) to offer program certification for qualified
professionals. Due to this collaboration, the in-person classes will
be arranged during the semi-annual GA GMIS conferences
scheduled for
October 16–19, 2016 • Savannah, GA
April 30–May 3, 2017 • Jekyll Island, GA
October 15–18, 2017 • Coastal Georgia location TBD
Course Duration September 2016 to October 2017
Tuition $3,600 per participant, which includes all three
GA GMIS conference registrations
Note: Tuition does not include food, lodging, or other expenses.

Capstone Project
Michael Hourihan, CVIOG faculty liaison to GA GMIS,
provides management, organizational development,
leadership, and special topic training for state and local
elected officials, managers, supervisors, and staff. He has
spent more than 25 years in various management roles
in the public and private sectors and has served as a
business coach at the managerial level.
Dr. Marci Campbell, CVIOG trainer and CGCIO™
program developer, has more than 20 years of
experience in education, with expertise in curriculum
development. She has teamed with Clark Rainer of GA
GMIS and GMIS International, and provides training to
state and local government in areas such as leadership,
organizational development, and special topics.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCEPTANCE
INTO THE PROGRAM
 Minimum of five years of public or private
managerial experience in the technology field
 Minimum 4-year degree from an accredited
institution of higher learning
 Agree to a self-enforced code of ethics
 At least one letter of approval for participation from
a supervisor, or city or county leader
 Completion of a formal application (to be provided)
stating your purpose for enrolling in the program, what
you will bring to the class, and your overall expectations
 Ability to pay tuition in full upon acceptance of
application and registration
The CGCIO™ program includes
240 LEARNING CREDIT HOURS*
INSTRUCTORS
Our experts will serve in key instructional and program facilitation roles.
Prospective students may ask the program developer for a waiver
for the first two requirements only during the application process.
Petitions may include a rationale for the request of waiver. On an as needed basis, instructors from the University of Georgia,
Dr. Alan Shark of the Public Technology Institute, and GA GMIS will
provide guest lecturers and technical discussions.
