3. THE STATUS OF EACH GOAL
¢ Goal 1 is highly relevant, and the policy framework for solid
waste has been undertaken under the NCDP.
¢ Under goal 2, Myanmar is undertaking waste to energy project
¢ Recycle rate is increasing especially in paper, plastic and metal.
Others are low rate for recycling. There is no specific policy in
there
¢ For goal 4 Build sustainable cities /green cities by
encouraging “zero waste” is needed for policy
intervention
¢ Goal 5, we have policy and program for private sector , e.g
Industrial policy No.(4) - Efficient Utilization of
available natural resources and promotion of
value-added products based on locally available
natural resources 3

¢ There are pilot projects under goal 6, e.g IEE Project
(2015-2019) , RECP Project (2016-2018)
¢ Specific policy intervention are needed under goal 7 and
8.
¢ Recently, Myanmar has signed in Basel Convention. In
near future, systematic classification of hazardous
wastes will be followed by Basel Convention. This will
support to Goal 9.
¢ Goal 10-12, and 14-16 we do not have specific policies ,
however, the programme has been implemented

¢ E-waste is mostly sent to second hand shop and we do not
have specific data for each item
¢ To improve resource efficiency and resource productivity,
Myanmar is working with ASEAN programmes
¢ For goal 18 to 19. we need to strengthen our mechanism
¢ The rest of the goals are under processing and need to
develop specific policy and project
