The Government Soap Factory was converted into a
State owned Public Sector Undertaking under the
name & style of KARNATAKA SOAPS AND DETERGENTS
LTD during the year 1980. The KARNATAKA SOAPS &
DETERGENTS LTD., (KS&DL) is the true inheritor of
India's Golden Sandalwood Legacy. KS&DL is one of
the largest extractors of Mysore Sandalwood Oil and
manufacturers of Mysore Sandal Soap in the world.
Our Sandalwood Oil Division at Mysore is the largest
extractor of Sandalwood Oil in India. It is exported to
Europe, U.S.A. U.A.E. Russia and Germany, and used
by leading perfume houses of the world. Sandalwood
oil is known as FRAGRANCE AMBASSADOR OF INDIA
and also known LIQUID GOLD. Mysore Sandal Soap
was born from this golden legacy, enriched with the
PURE NATURAL SANDALWOOD OIL and it is KS&DL's
gift to the Nation. MYSORE SANDAL SOAP is the
favorite of millions of people all over the world.
4. HISTORY
• The Government Sandalwood Oil factory was established by the Maharaja of Mysore
His Highness Nalwadi Krishna Raja Wodeyar and Diwan Sir, M. Visvesvaraya, during the year
1916 at Mysore .

9. • Mysore Sandal Soap : Mysore Sandal Soap is the only soap in the world made from 100%
pure sandalwood oil. KSDL owns a proprietary Geographical indication(GI) tag on the Mysore
sandal soap which gives it intellectual property rights to use the brand name, to ensure
quality and also prevent piracy and unauthorised use by other manufacturers.

12. PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT:
KSDL as 3 main production plants:
Fatty Acid Plant
Talcum Powder plant

Soap Plant:
• The soap plant is one of the largest production plants in the country with an installed
capacity of 26,000 tonnes per annum.
• KSDL’s soap plant has its uniqueness been in a position to process as many as ten
different varieties of soap simultaneously. The sophisticated plant from Italy has a wholly
integrated straight line facility that links up process sequence for higher productivity.
• It is a stream line flow through right from raw material preparation to end or the line
collation with the built in facility for continuous fat bleaching & saponification. The
finishing touches are given or high tech universal wrapping machine. This high speed
auto wrapper has the capability to handle soaps of virtually & size or shape.
Detergent Plant:
• It has installed capacity of 10,000 tones per annum. To produce spray dried, powder & a
syntax plant for detergent cakes & bars.
13. MARKETING DEPARTMENT:
The company main products are soaps & detergents which are sold in different parts of India.
There are depots at various places of the country which are controlled by six branches. The role
of each branch as to ensure that sales activities coming under their control.
