PROJECT 4 SCHEDULE: Weeks 4-5
Crisis Communication
The following schedule describes the steps you will need to do in order to compose
deliverables and the estimated time it will take most students to complete each step.
Estimated time you will need to complete this project: 16 hours.
Steps Do the Following Time
1 Monday, July 5th: Independence Day (Observed) – Campus Closed
Skim the steps in this schedule, so you can plan how to manage your
time this week.
Read Handouts:
• Project 4 Assignment Sheet
Read the examples of P4: White Paper.
Create a notebook in OneNote. Be certain the title has your first and
last name. Prepare the notebook to receive data by creating pages,
sections, and subsections.
Go through the following lecture slidedoc once to familiarize yourself
with the content.
1. How to Choose the Crisis Event
Read the followingLinks:
• Forbes: “The Biggest PR Crisis of 2017”
• Meltwater: “The Top 7 Social Media Fires of 2017”
• Crisis Response Pro: “Crisis Response Worst and Best
Handled Crisis Communication of 2017”.
Brainstorm Ideas Pt 1 Due Tuesday, July 6th at 11:59pm.
Send your instructor an email with any questions you have about this
Unit and its work (katiek@uidaho.edu).

2 Brainstorm Ideas Pt 2 Due Wednesday, July 7th at 11:59pm.
Decide which crisis event you will use for this project.
Read scholarly articles and choose a frame (organizing method) for
the analysis you will do. This may be easier if you do a little bit of
research into your crisis first.

NOTE: Your instructor has uploaded an “Overview of Scholarly
Frameworks” for you to glance at first. Once you decide which
framework is most effective for your crisis, then read the scholarly
article associated with it.
Go through the following lecture slidedoc once to familiarize yourself
with the content.
2. How to Create and use a Research Dossier
Begin collecting the source data into your research dossier notebook
and remember to make analysis notes and create complete citations.
TIP: Set up your research dossier in the framework you are using.
This will help you organize your communications as you find them.
3 Go through the following lecture slidedocs once to familiarize yourself
with the content.
3. How to Write a White Paper
Using the requirements on the assignment sheet and slidedocs,
begin drafting your White Paper.
NOTE: Your instructor has uploaded an “Outline of the White Paper”
in the “Project 4 Tools and Resources”.
4 hours
4 Once your drafts are done, consult the “Grading Criteria and
Wholistic Grading Rubric”. Identify areas you can improve on and
make those revisions. If you are unsure what to revise or don’t know
how to revise it, send your instructor an email (katiek@uidaho.edu).
Submit White Paper Self-Evaluation by Sunday, July 11th by 11:59pm.

5 Watch the examples of P4: Apology Screencast.
Choose an apology video to analyze. NOTE: It does not have to be
related to your crisis event.
Read: “How to Read Body Language”
Go through the following lecture slidedocs once to familiarize yourself
with the content.
4. How to Create the Screencast Analysis of an Apology Video
Watch the following TedTalk videos:
• Pamela Meyer’s “How to Spot a Liar”
• Amy Cuddy’s “Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are”

6 Using the requirements on the assignment sheet and slidedocs, write
the voice-over script and practice it.
Go to Tools and Resources, decide which tool you will use to create
Screencast, and do a test recording. Follow troubleshooting steps, if
you encounter technical issues.
Record your screencast.
Once your drafts are done, consult the “Grading Criteria and
Wholistic Grading Rubric”. Identify areas you can improve on and
make those revisions. If you are unsure what to revise or don’t know
how to revise it, send your instructor an email (katiek@uidaho.edu).

PROJECT 4 DELIVERABLES DUE: Sunday 7/18 before 11:59 PM.
Submit your work to the project 1 drop box as follows:
1. Deliverable 1: White Paper, submit your white paper as a Word or PDF.
2. Deliverable 2: Research Dossier, submit the link to your OneNote dossier at the
top of your paper.
3. Deliverable 3: Screencast, cut and paste the URL to your screencast in the
comment area of the submissions box.
4. To avoid a point penalty, verify your submission.

ENGL 313: Summer 2021 Session II Page 1 of 2 PROJECT 4 SCHEDULE: Weeks 4-5 Crisis Communication The following schedule describes the steps you will need to do in order to compose deliverables and the estimated time it will take most students to complete each step. Estimated time you will need to complete this project: 16 hours. Steps Do the Following Time 1 Monday, July 5th: Independence Day (Observed) – Campus Closed Skim the steps in this schedule, so you can plan how to manage your time this week. Read Handouts: • Project 4 Assignment Sheet Read the examples of P4: White Paper. Create a notebook in OneNote. Be certain the title has your first and last name. Prepare the notebook to receive data by creating pages, sections, and subsections. Go through the following lecture slidedoc once to familiarize yourself with the content. 1. How to Choose the Crisis Event Read the followingLinks: • Forbes: “The Biggest PR Crisis of 2017” • Meltwater: “The Top 7 Social Media Fires of 2017” • Crisis Response Pro: “Crisis Response Worst and Best Handled Crisis Communication of 2017”. Brainstorm Ideas Pt 1 Due Tuesday, July 6th at 11:59pm. Send your instructor an email with any questions you have about this Unit and its work (katiek@uidaho.edu). 2 hours 2 Brainstorm Ideas Pt 2 Due Wednesday, July 7th at 11:59pm. Decide which crisis event you will use for this project. Read scholarly articles and choose a frame (organizing method) for the analysis you will do. This may be easier if you do a little bit of research into your crisis first. 2 hours
  • 2. ENGL 313: Summer 2021 Session II Page 2 of 2 NOTE: Your instructor has uploaded an “Overview of Scholarly Frameworks” for you to glance at first. Once you decide which framework is most effective for your crisis, then read the scholarly article associated with it. Go through the following lecture slidedoc once to familiarize yourself with the content. 2. How to Create and use a Research Dossier Begin collecting the source data into your research dossier notebook and remember to make analysis notes and create complete citations. TIP: Set up your research dossier in the framework you are using. This will help you organize your communications as you find them. 3 Go through the following lecture slidedocs once to familiarize yourself with the content. 3. How to Write a White Paper Using the requirements on the assignment sheet and slidedocs, begin drafting your White Paper. NOTE: Your instructor has uploaded an “Outline of the White Paper” in the “Project 4 Tools and Resources”. 4 hours 4 Once your drafts are done, consult the “Grading Criteria and Wholistic Grading Rubric”. Identify areas you can improve on and make those revisions. If you are unsure what to revise or don’t know how to revise it, send your instructor an email (katiek@uidaho.edu). Submit White Paper Self-Evaluation by Sunday, July 11th by 11:59pm. 2 hours 5 Watch the examples of P4: Apology Screencast. Choose an apology video to analyze. NOTE: It does not have to be related to your crisis event. Read: “How to Read Body Language” Go through the following lecture slidedocs once to familiarize yourself with the content. 4. How to Create the Screencast Analysis of an Apology Video Watch the following TedTalk videos: • Pamela Meyer’s “How to Spot a Liar” • Amy Cuddy’s “Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are” 3 hours
  • 3. ENGL 313: Summer 2021 Session II Page 3 of 2 6 Using the requirements on the assignment sheet and slidedocs, write the voice-over script and practice it. Go to Tools and Resources, decide which tool you will use to create Screencast, and do a test recording. Follow troubleshooting steps, if you encounter technical issues. Record your screencast. Once your drafts are done, consult the “Grading Criteria and Wholistic Grading Rubric”. Identify areas you can improve on and make those revisions. If you are unsure what to revise or don’t know how to revise it, send your instructor an email (katiek@uidaho.edu). 3 hours PROJECT 4 DELIVERABLES DUE: Sunday 7/18 before 11:59 PM. Submit your work to the project 1 drop box as follows: 1. Deliverable 1: White Paper, submit your white paper as a Word or PDF. 2. Deliverable 2: Research Dossier, submit the link to your OneNote dossier at the top of your paper. 3. Deliverable 3: Screencast, cut and paste the URL to your screencast in the comment area of the submissions box. 4. To avoid a point penalty, verify your submission.
