4. Music in the community
Helping to achieve your charity and Corporate
Social Responsibility goals
City of London Sinfonia’s Meet the
Music programme has brought music
into the wider community for over
twenty years. We achieve this work
with the support of our business
partners, together with that of trusts
and foundations.
Recent ventures include building
links between local schools from the
state and private sector, and music
workshops within a London prison
aimed at developing prisoners’ self-

you come to the school.’

confidence and presentation
skills. Internationally CLS mentors
young musicians in Colombia and
has worked with student musicians
in China.
In partnership with Great Ormond
Street Hospital, our long-running
programme Music for Children
enhances the quality of life of its
young patients. These musical
activities provide a much-needed
release from the strain of medical
treatments whilst actively
involving children in a creative
and stimulating environment.
We seek corporate partners for
our existing work and welcome
the opportunity to develop
bespoke programmes to help you
meet your company’s Corporate
Social Responsibility goals. Set us
your challenge, involve your staff
as volunteers and see our music
produce results.

Enhancing your events
Let the orchestra based in the City
of London enhance your event with
world-class music from professional
and experienced members of an
organisation that understands how to
make a difference to your event. From
a solo harpist at a drinks reception, to
a jazz ensemble at your annual dinner,
to popular and accessible classical
music, CLS can design the perfect
musical programme for you.
We have special partnerships with
several beautiful City of London livery
halls – ancient homes of the City’s
trade organisations. We can therefore
offer exclusive concerts in some of
London’s most beautiful and private
venues, including Merchant Taylors’
Hall and Mansion House.
Live classical music isn’t just about
formal concerts though. We provide
musicians to enhance new building
openings, client lunches or open-air
events. Let us make your event
more memorable.
‘The quality of private
concerts MMC have
experienced over our
long association with
CLS has never failed to
exceed expectations.
With the backdrop
of superb locations
including livery halls
and venues across the
UK, our guests always
enjoy a unique musical
experience’.

As resident orchestra at Opera Holland
Park, we can also offer your guests a
memorable evening of opera and
entertaining in fashionable West
London. Widely admired for its
world-class performers and relaxed
atmosphere, performances at the
listed, weather-proofed Opera Holland
Park Theatre appeal to both seasoned
opera-goers and newcomers alike.
CLS can offer tailored hospitality and
ticket packages to suit your company’s
needs, and our musicians will be
delighted to meet your guests, offering
the chance to discuss the opera with
the performers and providing a unique
‘behind the scenes’ insight.

our Livery dinner was a
triumph and was regarded
by our members as being
one of the most memorable
of our 30 year existence’.

Development Through Music: City of London
Sinfonia’s award-winning professional skills
development programme
To achieve peak performance,
a professional orchestra must
demonstrate many qualities that are
equally desirable in the corporate
world. Working and playing in
harmony requires musicians to know
when to lead and when to follow; to
listen acutely and to communicate
effectively without speaking; to
trust in their colleagues and to cope
with constant change; and to meet
the ultimate deadline – a public
performance – night after night.
In its ‘Development through Music’,
CLS musicians share their knowledge
with professionals in other industries
to strengthen the core skills they
need in their working lives. The
programme has also proved useful
for organisations bringing together
different staff groups and so has been
used to forge new relationships after
restructuring or mergers.
‘Probably the best team-
based activity I have ever
been involved in.’

7. Valuing your workforce
Music raises the spirits. We have
many years of experience in providing
music which can lift staff morale
and enhance internal events.
Family music days for staff and
their families are especially popular.
In unique venues such as the Tower
of London or one of London’s family-
friendly museums, we can offer fun,
interactive events for the whole family
in which children and adults learn
about music and actually get to
perform with our musicians.
Alternatively, we can come into
your workplace either on a special
occasion such as an annual celebration
or Christmas event, or as a regular
lunchtime concert for staff to
drop into.
What differentiates CLS from other
arts organisations is the unique
flexibility we have in working with
our corporate partners. Perhaps you
have a staff choir which could
benefit from a professional musical
backing or want to offer a professional
mentoring scheme for budding
musicians within your organisation?
Why not offer access to the City’s
orchestra as a way to incentivise your
workforce and make your organisation
a distinctive and appealing place
to work?
‘The excellent string trio from
City of London Sinfonia added
so much to our annual lunch.
Playing with real professionalism,
their contribution made both
the champagne reception
beforehand and the lunch itself
so much more memorable
for everyone’
Major Peter Williamson, Past Master
of the Billingsgate Ward Club & Liveryman
of the Worshipful Company of Musicians
‘The workshops with the
orchestra and theatre
company were excellent.
Everything ran very
smoothly and it was a real
pleasure to see the children
performing so beautifully
with the musicians’
