This document provides a weekly timeline of projects for a Human Resources department. It outlines 13 projects with start and end dates ranging from May 25, 2016 to July 7, 2016. The projects include organizing an employee information center, migrating HR documents to a new system, planning an intern meet and greet, conducting an I-9 audit, creating binders for intern programs, distributing wellness and recognition surveys, researching business cultures, and mailing 401K statements. For each project, milestones and tasks are defined to track progress throughout the specified time periods.

1) You have a manager who informs you that the year long project (linear spend plan) they are executing currently (use today’s date) has spent half their budget of $500K, and they show a CPI of 1.16 and an SPI of 0.82. What is your prediction for the project? (On what date will this project finish and what is your ETC?) Why do you believe this to be true? What do you intend to do with the project team tomorrow?
Prediction for the project can be calculated by the following equations:
CPI = EV (earned value) / AC (Actual Cost)
1.16= EV/ $250,000
Therefore, the Earned Value (EV) = $290,000
----------------------------------------------------------
SPI= Earned Value (EV) / Planned Value (PV)
0.82= $290,000/ PV
Therefore, The planned value (PV) =$353,658
----------------------------------------------------------
We can expected the total project cost by using the following formula:
Estimate at completion (EAC) = Budget at completion (BAC)/ CPI
EAC= $500,000/1.16
EAC= $431,034.48
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Calculating the variance at completion (VAC) to determine how much the project over and under the budget
VAC= BAC-EAC
$500,000 - $431,034.48 = $68,965
Therefore we expect the project to be about $69K under budget.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Estimate to complete (ETC) how much more will it cost to finish this project.
ETC= EAC-AC
ETC= $446,428.5-$250,000 = $181,034
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Determine the project is under or over budget.
Cost of Variance (CV) = EV- AC
CV= $290,000-$250,000 = $40,000
Therefore, the project is under budget by $40,000
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The schedule variance (SV) = EV- PV
$290,000-$353,658 = -63,658
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The total duration to complete this project 5/10/2015 = Baseline duration / SPI
12 month /0.82 = 14.6 months
Approximately 2 month and 16 days behind schedule
Therefore, from today’s date 5/10/2015 the project will be completed on 7/26/2016
-I strongly believe it is correct because CPI plays fundamental role in measuring the efficiency of the project. If the CPI of a project is one, this means that the actual project costs have not exceeded the budget costs. On the other hand, if the SPI less than one indicates the project is behind schedule. Earned value analysis (EVM) is a valuable technique because it provides important forecasting information that is going to help project managers control the project in terms of cost and schedule in order to meet the project goals and deadlines.
-I intend to bring back the project on the track, when the project behind the schedule I need to hold a meeting with all the stakeholder of the project to determine the possible causes of this ...

Social Work Research: Planning a Program Evaluation
Joan is a social worker who is currently enrolled in a social work PhD program. She is planning to conduct her dissertation research project with a large nonprofit child welfare organization where she has worked as a site coordinator for many years. She has already approached the agency director with her interest, and the leadership team of the agency stated that they would like to collaborate on the research project.
The child welfare organization at the center of the planned study has seven regional centers that operate fairly independently. The primary focus of work is on foster care; that is, recruiting and training foster parents and running a regular foster care program with an emphasis on family foster care. The agency has a residential program as well, but it will not participate in the study. Each of the regional centers services about 45–50 foster parents and approximately 100 foster children. On average, five to six new foster families are recruited at each center on a quarterly basis. This number has been consistent over the past 2 years.
Recently it was decided that a new training program for incoming foster parents would be used by the organization. The primary goals of this new training program include reducing foster placement disruptions, improving the quality of services delivered, and increasing child well-being through better trained and skilled foster families. Each of the regional centers will participate and implement the new training program. Three of the sites will start the program immediately, while the other four centers will not start until 12 months from now. The new training program consists of six separate 3-hour training sessions that are typically conducted in a biweekly format. It is a fairly proceduralized training program; that is, a very detailed set of manuals and training materials exists. All trainings will be conducted by the same two instructors. The current training program that it will replace differs considerably in its focus, but it also uses a 6-week, 3-hour format. It will be used by those sites not immediately participating until the new program is implemented.
Joan has done a thorough review of the foster care literature and has found that there has been no research on the training program to date, even though it is being used by a growing number of agencies. She also found that there are some standardized instruments that she could use for her study. In addition, she would need to create a set of Likert-type scales for the study. She will be able to use a group design because all seven regional centers are interested in participating and they are starting the training at different times.

This is an assignment for my Comm 322 Social Media Class for Fall 2014. It is a way for students to learn about content planning related to goals, objectives, key messages, and social media channel purpose goals. Thus, students get to think strategically about the type of content that they can create that would align with those goals. I've blogged about this assignment at mattkushin.com where you can find more context and explanation.
1. Weekly Project Timeline Tracker
1. Human Resources Info Center Organization
a. The Info Center, located between HR cubicles’ needed to be updated, sifted
through, and organized. Handouts and forms needed to be organized and
properly placed in labeled sections. The Info Center’s organization is important
because employees need to know where certain forms are, what they are and
what other forms are related to them in terms of benefits. The Info Center
needed to be organized into sections (Dental-Guardian, Medical-Health Plans
etc.) and clearly labeled.
b. Project Start Date: May 25, 2016 Project End Date: June 2, 2016
c. Milestones/ Tasks needed to be accomplished:
- May 25, 2016 through May 27, 2016: Printed out every form, became familiar
with it, determined if it was still needed in the Info Center, if it needed to be
updated, or if more copies needed to be made.
- May 30, 2016 through May 31, 2016: Printed out, laminated and hung up
labels for each section in the Info Center (Dental-Guardian, Medical-Health
Plans, Life & Disability Insurance- Reliance Standard, Flexible Spending
Accounts- Discovery Benefits, Vision & Prescription Drug Benefits, and Misc.)
- June 1, 2016 through June 2, 2016: Made sure all forms and handouts were in
correct place in the Info Center and made sure all forms that employees would
need were located in Info Center.
2. Migrating HR Intranet all from SharePoint to ADP
a. As Rochester Electronics is shifting to ADP, all of the HR tab in SharePoint
needed to be transferred over to ADP. All of the forms in SharePoint needed to
be looked over, updated if needed, and needed to determine whether some
forms should be transferred over to ADP, placed in the Info Center, both, or
neither. The goal of this project was to get all of HR’s forms and tabs over to
ADP and to familiarize myself with all the different forms. Being familiar with the
forms is important in the case that an employee asks me for help on a form or
asks me where they can find that form.
b. Project Start Date: May 27, 2016 Project End Date: June 3, 2016
c. Milestone/ Tasks needed to be Accomplished:
- May 27, 2016: Printed out all the current forms on SharePoint, decided if they
were needed in ADP, Info Center, both or neither.
- May 30, 2016: Transferred all updated, needed documents to ADP and
organized them into sections.
- June 2, 2016: Notified HelpDesk to add a note to the HR tab in SharePoint that
everything had been transferred to ADP and refer employees to
ADP/Resources/ Tools & References Tab.
3. Kick Starting the Internship Program
Date: May 25, 2016- August 26, 2016
Name: Kat Norton
Department: Human Resources
2. a. Once all the interns had officially started at Rochester Electronics, a meeting
needed to be scheduled to introduce everyone and talk about the program and
what it entails. The goal of this project was to not only send out an invitation to
meet to the interns, but to made some ‘goodie-bags’ and contact sheets and
other things that would make it easy for the interns to settle in and connect with
others.
b. Project Start Date: May 31, 2016 Project End Date: June 2, 2016
c. Milestones/Tasks that need to be accomplished along the way:
- May 31, 2016: I researched all the intern’s contact information (emails, cell
numbers, departments) through ADP and created a laminated chart of all the
interns contact information for each of the interns to have and use to communicate
with one another
- May 31, 2016: Invited all the interns and copied their mentors and bosses into an
evite for a group meet and greet for Thursday June 2, 2016.
- June 1, 2016: I made ‘goodie bags’ for all the interns to welcome them to Rochester
Electronics. I used supplies from the marketing closet (magnets, calendars, pins,
hats, lunch boxes, notebooks etc.) and created welcome bags for each of the
interns to receive at the meet and greet meeting.
- June 2, 2016: I held the intern meet and greet in the Nantucket room and had
everyone introduce themselves and set a plan for the summer.
4. I-9 Audit
a. I-9 audit needed to be done to make sure that all of the I-9 forms were correct.
The goal of this audit was to make sure that every employee at Rochester
Electronics had an I-9 form filled out and to make sure that each form was filled
out correctly, and proper documentation was attached.
b. Project Start Date: June 3, 2016 through June 8, 2016
c. Milestone/ Tasks needed to be Accomplished:
- June 3, 2016: Went through all I-9 forms in the binders and checked off all the
employees who had the forms. Made note of employees who did not have an
I-9 forms. Also, moved any terminated employees that were still in the active I-
9 forms binder to the TERM I-9 form binder.
- June 6, 2016 through June 8, 2016: Did a formal audit of all I-9 forms (Made
sure I-9 was properly signed, dated, filled out, and made sure each employee
had proper documentation of either their passport or drivers’ license and social
security card etc.
- June 7, 2016: Made lists of employees whose I-9s were not found, not filled
out properly, or any errors. Made note of all names with errors and found all
employees I-9s in their files that had not been found before.
- June 8, 2016: Audit was complete/ list of errors was noted
- Continuing to work on errors and make note of them
5. Internship Program Binder
a. The purpose of this project is to create a binder designated to the 2016 Summer
Internship Program. This binder will include intern meeting notes and outlines,
weekly project trackers, intern contact information, goals, and anything to do
3. with the group project. Having this binder full of project trackers, goals, weekly
notes and other information about the intern program will be an easy way for
anyone to access any type of form from the intern program. This binder also
gives other employees the opportunity to easily see what the interns have been
up to and what projects they are working on. Finally, this binder is a good way to
reflect on what the interns did during their program, what goals they had, and
what they achieved.
b. Project Start Date: June 7, 2016 Project End Date: End of Summer
c. Milestones/Tasks that need to be accomplished along the way:
- June 7, 2016: I determined what parts of the internship program were most
important and figured out a way to organize it into binder tabs/sections. I came up
with 5 tab headers: MEETINGS, PROJECT, GOALS, TRACKERS, CONTACT.
- I printed out all the meeting outlines and trackers and handouts that we had so far
and filed them into the correct sections.
- Throughout the summer I will continue adding the meeting notes, weekly trackers,
and any other interesting information about the internship program’s progress
6. Wellness Survey – Issue and track results
a. A survey needed to be made to survey employees on what wellness seminar
they would prefer. Research needed to be done on the different seminars
available, prices, etc. After a list of about 5 choices had been narrowed down for
employees to choose from, a survey needed to be made.
b. Project Start Date: June 6, 2016 Project End Date June 7, 2016
c. Milestone/ Tasks needed to be Accomplished:
- June 6 2016: Researched all the optional seminars and narrowed it down to a
few categories that I believed would benefit Rochester Electronics the most.
Made sure prices of seminars would work with budget.
- Created a survey on Google forms that will be sent out next week to
employees to choose a topic that they would most prefer.
7. Mentor/Mentee Contract
a. A Mentor/Mentee Contract is going to be created for college graduates working
at RE and their mentors. Research will be done first to figure out what other
companies have done and established at their programs and at the end, an
official Mentor/Mentee contract will be created for the college graduates and the
Mentors to sign at the beginning of the Mentorship. This will help establish goals
and objectives for the program and at the end of the program, the mentors and
mentees will be able to evaluate what was done and what was not done.
b. Project Start Date: June 10, 2016 Project End Date: End of June
c. Milestone/ Tasks needed to be Accomplished:
- Research
- Develop a contract
- Implement it
8. Job Description Audit
4. a. A job description audit needed to be done to make sure that every job
description (150 descriptions) are up to date. The goal of this project is to create
a new folder on the computer that would eventually be uploaded to COMPAS.
Having these updated job descriptions would make it easy to access information
about an employee’s current job or to place an ad out for a job opening. Having
the job description audit was also important because the job descriptions
needed to be put into a new standardized format.
b. Project Start Date: June 13, 2016 Project End Date: Towards the end of June
c. Milestones/Tasks that need to be accomplished along the way:
- June 13, 2016: Transferred a report of every employee’s name and job title
from ADP into an excel spreadsheet. Creating this spreadsheet of the job
descriptions and what employee had each job helped to keep track of what job
descriptions I update and which needed more work.
- June 13, 2016 through June 15, 2016: Searched the F drive for each individual
job description on the list. Once I found the old description, I copy and pasted
the information to the new template. For any job descriptions that were missing
some information, I made note of on the excel spreadsheet. For any job
descriptions that I couldn’t find to update, I made note of as well.
- June 15, 2016: I finished going through the of 150 job descriptions. 82 were
complete and updated and 63 were missing or unable to update. I made lists
of which descriptions we needed more information on and which were
completed.
- June 16, 2016 through following week: Will need to search harder in F drive,
employee’s files, and COMPAS to find the rest of the job descriptions. Once
these are found, I will complete updating them and move forward with having
the updated job descriptions uploaded to COMPAS.
9. Recognition/ SPOT Award Form
a. A new form for the SPOT award needed to be created. The other members of
HR were working on the budgets for the specific departments and awards. While
they were in the process of that, a form that employees/managers could fill out
to nominate other employees for their hard work needed to be created.
b. Project Start Date: June 9, 2016 Project End Date: June 15, 2016
c. Milestones/Tasks that need to be accomplished along the way:
- June 9, 2016: Took notes about what the SPOT award was, who it is
usually given to, and why. Once I had this information, I did online research
on examples of employee nomination forms.
- June 10, 2016: Once I had enough research, I edited a form and added
information that pertained more to Rochester Electronics’. I went over the
draft with Dina and she gave advice and added a few suggestions. I made
some changes to the form and edited everything that Dina had suggested.
- June 13, 2016: I finalized the SPOT award form and sent it to Cydney to be
reviewed.
10.Intern Activity/Outings Survey
5. a. A survey for the interns to fill out needed to be created. This survey would be
about potential intern activities and outings. The questions of the survey were
designed to figure out what the interns were most interested in, what they were
least interested in, what times they were available, what foods they liked etc.
The goal of this project was to get some anonymous feedback from the interns
about their interest and availability so that planning a future activity would be a
little easier.
b. Project Start Date: June 14, 2016 Project End Date: Same Day (June 14, 2016)
c. Milestones/Tasks that need to be accomplished along the way:
- June 14, 2016: Think about what questions would be most useful to ask in
the survey. Questions pertaining to when each intern is available, what
food are they interested in, what activity they would be most interested in
etc.
- I worked with another intern, Elizabeth, to get some feedback and
suggestions from her as well. Once I came up with the basic questions and
some activity suggestions, I created the survey on google forms and sent it
out to all the interns.
- I received 5 responses out of 8 interns which was great feedback for me to
start planning the intern activity/outing.
11.Official Internship Group on Office 365
a. A good way for the interns to communicate, share files, and edit documents
would be through an official group in Office 365. This group would include all the
Rochester Electronics interns and would be designed to allow interns to share
files, start conversations, and edit other’s documents. The goal of this project
was to create another form of communication for the interns to more easily
share information, ideas, and projects.
b. Project Start Date: June 13,2016 Project End Date: Continuing throughout the
summer
c. Milestones/Tasks that need to be accomplished along the way:
- June 13, 2016: Created the actual group on Office 365. I titled the group
‘2016 Rochester Electronics Internship Program’ and invited all interns to
the group. I sent out an email to the interns explaining what it was and
added a few files to the group to show as examples.
- Throughout the summer, my goal is to have the interns reach out and start
conversations about ideas or thoughts for projects in this group. I also hope
the interns can share documents or information with the other interns in this
group.
12.Business Culture Research
a. With business being done with different countries and cultures, there was a need
to know more about different cultures and the norms in different countries. I came
up with a list of 6 countries to research (Germany, France, Singapore, U.K.,
Japan, and China) and used a book called ‘Kiss, bow, or Shake Hands’ to do
most of the research. This book contained fun facts about each country, tips on
doing business in that country, country background, type of government, cultural
6. orientation, business practices (negotiating, business entertaining), and protocol
(greeting, dress, gestures, etc.) The book contained a lot of information so I read
through each country and picked out the most important things that one should
know when meeting someone from a different culture, or doing business with
them. I made a ‘study guide/ study tips’ for each country and included everything
from the proper protocol for greeting someone from a specific country, to what
are appropriate gifts to give. The main goal of this project was to capture to key
tips and facts that one should know when doing business with someone from
another country or culture. When the study guides are all finished, I will present
them to the HR team and eventually create fun game to help employees
remember the specific protocols for each country.
b. Project Start Date: June 27, 2016 Project End Date: July 1, 2016
c. Milestones/ Tasks needed to be accomplished along the way:
- June 27, 2016: Researched Germany and China and created study
guides/tips for both countries.
- June 28, 2016: Researched Japan and Singapore and created study
guides/tips for both countries.
- July 1, 2016: Researched France and U.K. and created study guides/tips
for both countries.
13.401K Mailing
a. A mailing needed to be sent out to all the employees with statements. I would
receive the pack of statements from Ralph and compiled a list of each of the
employee’s addresses. The statements would have to be folded, the envelopes
labeled and sealed and sent out for the employees to receive in the mail.
b. Start Date: Tuesday July 5, 2016 End Date: July 7, 2016
c. Milestones/ Tasks needed to be accomplished along the way:
- July 5, 2016: Gathered the statements and information from Finance and
started organizing the employees addresses into excel.
- July 5, 2016: Started labeling the envelopes and putting the statements in
and sealing them.
- July 6, 2016: Finished labeling and sealing the statements.
- July 7, 2016: Stamped all the envelopes and double checked to make
sure that the addresses were correct and finally sent out the mailing.
14.Intern Survey
a. I wanted to create a google forms survey that could be sent out to the interns
regarding the internship program. I thought it would be beneficial to hear what the
interns had to say about the Internship Program anonymously. The goal of this
project was to identify any problems or flaws in the internship program and
address them, find out what the interns enjoy about the program and continue
doing those things, and finally, find out what the interns would like to start doing
and then start doing those things. The ultimate goal was for us to have a mid-
summer evaluation to see how the internship program was doing and how we
could improve it, if possible.
b. Start Date: July 6, 2016 End Date: July 19, 2016
7. c. Milestones/ Tasks needed to be accomplished along the way:
- July 6,2016: Thought about what kind of information we wanted to get
from the interns to start developing questions that would help us to gain
the most information. I also started thinking about what we would want to
do with this information once we got it, which helped me to base my
questions around those sorts of things.
- July 18, 2016: I created the google form survey and created the questions
that I would send to the interns. I included three questions in the survey:
what you would like to start doing in the internship program, what you
would like to stop doing, and what you would like to continue doing. I sent
out this survey to the interns with a description of what this survey was.
- July 19, 2016: I received a few responses with great feedback for the
internship program. I printed this feedback out and have been going
through it deciding what should be changed/stopped/started. Most of the
feedback was very positive, and the other feedback was very helpful
suggestions for future internship programs at Rochester Electronics.
15. Compliance Posters Audit
a. There is a bulletin with compliance posters located in Building 16, 18 and 10 and
they have not been updated in a while so the goal of this project is to create a list
of posters that are mandatory for Federal and MA State Laws. The other goal of
this project was to do an audit of the bulletins in each of the buildings to figure
out if the posters were up to date or if each building had all the required ones or
not. If the buildings did not have the right posters, I would have to order them or
create new ones.
b. Project Start Date: July 19, 2016 Project End Date: July 25, 2016
c. Milestones/ Tasks needed to be accomplished along the way:
- July 19, 2016: Create and use a previous list to figure out what posters are
absolutely mandatory to have in each building and provide a link for each
poster in an excel spreadsheet. Once I had the list I went downstairs in
Building 16 and took a picture of the board and did an audit. I checked off
all the posters that were required that were there and made a list of ones
that they didn’t have. Later that day I went to Building 18 and did the same
audit on their bulletin. I replaced the ‘Workers Comp’ poster and made a
checklist of the correct ones they had and made a list of any they were
missing.
- July 20, 2016: I did some research on Personal Concepts.com to figure
out if we should order new posters for the bulletins or not. I also finalized
the required posters and created a files for ‘Compliance Posters’.
16.The Biggest Loser in the Workplace
a. The goal of this project is to come up with a wellness/health program for the
employees. I thought that ‘The Biggest Loser’ would be the best option because
there are so many success stories about it in the workplace and it is also fairly
easy to start and keep track of. Although we would not definitely start this
8. program right away, I would do all the research and help come up with a
compatible plan for Rochester Electronics to do it.
b. Project Start Date: July 18, 2016 Project End Date: To be determined
c. Milestones/ Tasks needed to be accomplished along the way:
- July 18, 2016: Research the ‘Biggest Loser in the Workplace’ online. I
found many websites and blogs with experiences and suggestions and
steps to doing the Biggest Loser at your work. Throughout my research, I
looked for the experiences with the highest success rate, the highest
ratings, and the most liked. Once I did my research, I chose about three
websites/ experiences that I thought would work best for Rochester
Electronics.
17.Second 401K Mailing
a. Another mailing needed to be sent out to all the employees with statements for
the current period. I would receive the pack of statements from Ralph and also a
cover letter, and two other forms with information about employees 401(K) plans.
The statements and 3 other documents would have to be folded, the envelopes
labeled and sealed and sent out for the employees to receive in the mail.
b. Start Date: Monday August 8, 2016 End Date: August 10, 2016
c. Milestones/ Tasks needed to be accomplished along the way:
- August 8, 2016: Gathered the statements and information from Finance
and started organizing the employees addresses into excel. We didn’t
currently have an updated list of everyone’s addresses in the 401(K)
program so throughout the course of the summer I had been compiling a
list of employees updated addresses into an excel file. This was
necessary because it made things easier when doing a mailing to be able
to print out labels for each address.
- August 9, 2016: Started labeling the envelopes and putting the statements
in and sealing them.
- August 10, 2016: Finished labeling the envelopes and sent them out to
employees.
18. Sample Staffing Plan Template
a. A sample staffing plan template needed to be made in Excel to project resource
needs, the costs, and timing. The goal of this project was to find a sample
staffing plan template and determine which one would be a good fit for
Rochester Electronics’ specific needs. Once found, I would recreate it in excel
personalized to Rochester Electronics.
b. Project Start Date: August 17, 2016 Project End Date: August 19, 2016
c. Milestones/ Tasks needed to be accomplished along the way:
- August 17, 2016: Researched staffing plan templates to find the most effective
ones
- August 19, 2016: Found a template that would work well with Rochester
Electronics’ needs and created it in excel
