1. Reflection Paper
After completing the TLC program I realized how many life changing experiences this
program provided me with. Completing campus engagements hours allowed me to be involved
and learn about different aspects of the campus. Even more influential was completing my civic
engagement hours through the MPOWR program. The MPOWR program was my favorite part
of TLC and something I will never forget, not to mention the lessons I was taught. Finally, the
information taught at each workshop was applicable to many situations we will face throughout
our life. Overall, the TLC program was one of the best extracurriculars I have been a part of,
between the volunteer work and the campus engagements, I became a lot closer to the
community of San Marcos and I also learned a lot about myself that I will take away for years to
come.
My idea of leadership has changed because now I think that leadership is something
everyone should be taught. Before I believed that if there was partial leadership then things
would flow, but now I believe if every individual has a sense of leadership than we will all be
able to communicate better as a whole. The MPOWR program had the most impact on me in a
communal sense, I learned how to communicate and work one on one with individuals better.
Another impacting part of the program were the workshops, although they were only an hour in
length, the wealth of information was something I can relate to all aspects of my life. I did
achieve my SMART goals because being involved in the TLC program allowed me to get
together with others and collaborate in groups to better ourselves and the community, which was
one of my personal goals.
With regards to my future what I learned in TLC will benefit me greatly in the career
path I chose to take in the medical field. Not only did TLC help me with my communication
2. skills and being able to communicate with others it also helped with my leadership skills which
was what the program was designed to do. I will take those things and apply it to all aspects of
life and in my daily routine as a student here at CSUSM to better myself and the people I’m
around.
