So the video told you how chronozoom started but now it has evolved into something much more than just big history. When we talk to students, teachers and researchers there are so many collections, so much information and what is good quality and what isn’t is hard to find… It is hard to dig out piece by piece
In addition there are many of the best experts in the world where their great research is in their offices or personal computers and if you don’t take their course you will never experience their brilliance, wouldn’t it be fabulous to have that available for all students to experience
As much as disciplines are trying to work better together we still truly teach in silos and students aren’t learning the cause and effect relationships. When I learn about East Asian studies I will typically learn about the various religions in those countries but not their scientific discoveries or cultural anthropology or their relations to particles and earth. If we brought all this information together in one place, would we begin to ask different questions? Would we begin to innovate even faster and in ways unimaginable today with this new knowledge.
In addition, with the internet we are in information overload. There is so much to consume with audio, video, publications, ebooks, blogs, websites- how do you figure out what is good or bad quality. Where do you start to find information from the experts? Could we have 1 place to make it easier?
This is where Chronozoomhas evolved… Goal of ChronoZoom is to bring together researchers across disciplines to give students a broader view in their education. Help foster better collaborations amongst researchers. Enable researchers discover new innovations and insights through these collaborations Help students around the world make new discoveries By making a very visual experience, that is linear and very interactive that can mash-up any type of digital data available. Imagine you can be a child in ghana who doesn’t have a school but is sitting in an internet café and can watch the lectures from the top experts around the world and learn big-bang and the beginning of time to the current economic crisis around the world and not have to attend Berkeley or MIT to get the expertise of that professor but gets it there from the comfort of her internet café and builds her knowledge and love of learning. We can truly get to EDUCATION FOR ALL….
Chronozoom includes a large team with PI leadership from Dr. walter Alvarez at UC Berkeley and about 8 students creating the content in chronozoom with about 20 discipline experts around the world giving advice and content. To the 10 students at Moscow State University building the tool to our team of 10 at MSR supporting the students, the outcurve foundation in managing the IP and code.
