Rules of Thumb:
Sparkplug tips on the
pour-over method – also
known as drip, manual, filter,
Melitta, or Hario V60. Follow
these rules of thumb and you’ll…
Brew with the Best!

What You Need
3. TIP #1
Fold down the edges of the coffee filter. WHY? It sits in
the filter holder better and won’t collapse during
brewing.
5. TIP #2
Wet the filter paper with hot water.
WHY? It warms the cup and filter
holder and washes any “paper” taste
from the filter.
6. TIP #3
Use a FINE grind. WHY? Too coarse
and the water will flow through too
fast and it’ll taste weak and blah. Too
fine and it’ll taste bitter and sludgy.
Add one scoop per
cup. One scoop =
2tbsp / 30ml / 12g
for 200ml of water.
7. TIP #4
Pour a little water onto the grinds – just
enough to wet them. WHY? It releases
the flavour.
8. See all those
bubbles? That’s the
CO2 being released,
meaning it’s fresh and
full of flavour!
9. TIP #5
Now you’re ready to pour the rest of
the water. Pour in a zigzag or circular
pattern to stir up the grinds. WHY? To
make sure the grinds are fully soaked &
all the deliciousness is released.
10. If done right, the grounds
should be mounded at
the bottom like this and
not coated up the sides
with a well in the centre.
11. Brew with the Best!
And voila! All done! Clean
up is easy - just toss the
filter in your green bin.
Drink up while coffee is hot
& fresh!
