Pakistan needs batteries to meet growing demand from electric vehicles, energy storage, and telecommunications. Current battery storage capacity is around 6 GWh but is projected to need 100 GWh in the next decade. While lead-acid batteries are widely used, new technologies are needed. Key challenges include developing high power density, long lasting, low cost, and environmentally safe batteries through materials design and research. Collaborations between academia, industry, and international partners can help build trained workforce and share resources to advance lithium-ion and other batteries in Pakistan.
