This document outlines seven steps for problem solving and lists various tools that can be used at each step, including fishbone diagrams, scatter plots, control charts, and check sheets. The steps are: 1) defining the problem, 2) analyzing the current situation, 3) identifying the causes, 4) planning countermeasures, 5) implementing solutions, 6) confirming the effectiveness of changes, and 7) standardizing and controlling the process. Various tools are indicated as being particularly or generally effective for each step of the problem-solving process.
