6. Problem Statement 1 –
Increasing energy consumption in Lagos, Nigeria
• PROBLEM? In Lagos Nigeria huge amounts of fossil fuels are used to
generate power for occupants. How can Nigeria mitigate its carbon output via a clean
energy initiative?
• The project was suggested by award winning engineer and Nigerian Lead Fellow Adeolu Okulaja,
who is Technical Director at Arcline Beehive Design
• USERS: There is already a great deal of interest to support these initiatives among both private and
public sectors
• The benefits: Reduce operational costs and save money, reduce carbon impact, create more jobs,
improve social well being, while also acting as a model of success for nearby similar regions
7. Problem Statement 2 –
Using ICT to engage with civil society for climate resilient projects
• PROBLEM? This project focuses on establishing communication and outreach mechanisms to the most
vulnerable members of the society in order to acquire climate change adaptation information and to respond to
such information.
• The project will be managed by Lead Fellow Rex Mbewe
• USERS: The project aims to empower marginalised members of society with a mechanism for receiving
awareness messages from the authorities and to then respond accordingly.
• Benefits: Improved data and civil society engagement. The project aims to communicate complex issues into a
more user friendly language as to retrieve regional data such as climate variability, rainfall pattern, drought
regime, mobile technology availability and accessibility, mobile technology usage, etc
8. Problem statement 3 –
Inspiring Leaders for a sustainable world – The App
• “There is no doubt that in order to thrive, the network needs a centre of gravity that is healthy and that can act as the leader of a
jazz orchestra... We will be successful if we can support, connect and unleash the fellows. The original big idea of Lead, that the
world needs leaders for a sustainable world is as necessary as ever” Carole Therrin
• The user base for the app includes our network of 2500+ leaders in sustainability who all work in a variety of different sectors,
industries and regions across the world. We could also potentially then expand the user base to include our climate change
partners as well as other stakeholder groups.
• The goal of the app is twofold –
1) To increase awareness, education and inspiration to the users via a focus on content, positive stories, facts, statistics and a user
friendly design.
2) To increase engagement and action via networking and collaboration opportunities
