2. Problem Statement
After last weeks meeting, it was determined that to further improve in the elimination of waste and attain our
cost per unit goal building the 304 Family of Cameras, batch building would be the greatest potential. In order
to do so, we would create a work station in the Production area. Both to build and to test large quantities of
family cameras due to this particular family requiring the fewest quantity of components to build, therefore
demanding the least amount of footprint. This family of cameras being of the top 3 products by volume, will
offer the greatest cost savings by batch building to meet demand.
Batch building this family would eliminate the costs associated with our traditional pull-pick method which
creates the highest cost association because of multiple handling, pre staging and movement into production
by our warehouse associates across 3 shifts.
By implementing a Batch build method we can possibly produce a weekly requirement by building with one
person on an as needed basis after further utilizing trend data to determine quantity.
