Spring Recreation In Ithaca
Fact Sheet
Where is Ithaca: Ithaca is a city in the Southern Tier-Finger Lakes region of
New York. The city of Ithaca is pinpointed on the southern
shore of Cayuga Lake, in Central New York. Ithaca is
home to many recreational activities throughout the spring
season.
Ithaca/Cornell: Ithaca is the home to Ithaca College and Cornell University.
Ithaca athletics competes in the Division III while Cornell
competes in the Division I. The Ithaca Bombers are members of
the Empire 8 conference while the Cornell Big Red are
members of the Ivy League conference. Spring sports include
Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse, Tennis and Track and Field.
Likewise softball and baseball are played during the spring
season too. All these sporting events are highly entertaining
because of their fast level of play and expertise of the sport,
Hiking/Waterfalls: Ithaca is home to many hiking trails and gorges. Gorges are
narrow pathways between rocks that have some sort of flow of
water. Some top gorges in Ithaca include Buttermilk Falls,
Forest Falls, Taughannock Falls, Rocky Falls and Denison Falls.
All of these gorges have great hikes leading toward them and
amazing views.
Farmers Market: Located at Steamboat Landing, 545 Third St, Ithaca, NY 14851,
Ithaca’s Farmers Market is a market where local venders
showcase local produce and crafts to the community. One must
come hungry, because the food is amazing. It’s a great place to
take your family to walk around.
Cayuga Lake: Cayuga Lake is the longest of central New York glacier Finger
Lakes. The lake offers many activities such as fishing and

Discovery Trail: Located at 159 Sapsucker Woods Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850 the
Discovery trail is home to eight educating sites. It includes
the kid-friendly Sciencenter, the world-famous Cornell Lab of
Ornithology, the wild animals of the Cayuga Nature Center, the
botanic gardens of Cornell Plantations, the amazing fossil
specimens at the Museum of the Earth, the art collections at
Cornell's Johnson Museum, the local artifacts at the History
Center and the timely cultural events at the Tompkins Public
Library.
Golf/Tennis: Ithaca is home to some of the nicest golf and tennis facilities in
all upstate New York. Some places include Country Club of
Ithaca, Reis Tennis Center and Eastlake Recreational Club.
