Personal Statement as a Public health Expert and registered nurse

1. As a Public Health Specialist with expertise in Immunization and Surveillance, as well as project
management, I am proud of the successes I have achieved throughout my career. With a Bachelor of
Science in Nursing and Public Health and an ongoing MPH in Health Promotion and International Health,
I have been able to build a strong foundation of knowledge and skills that I have applied to make a
significant impact in my field.
In my most recent role as a Consultant Epidemiologist (Polio Surveillance) with the WHO in Kenya, I was
responsible for supporting the strengthening and maintenance of a sensitive active surveillance system
within the framework of IDSR with a special focus on polio eradication and vaccine-preventable diseases.
I supported county and sub-county health management teams, collaborated with local health entities and
national and international health partners, and analyzed IDSR data for unusual trends, data discrepancy,
and cases missed by VPD surveillance, instituting corrective measures where necessary. I also supported
the introduction and use of nOPV2 and the strengthening of routine immunization.
Before that, as a STOP Consultant Field Epidemiologist (Immunization and Surveillance) with the WHO in
Sierra Leone, I developed plans on elimination standards surveillance for measles and rubella, conducted
outbreak response immunization and surveillance activities for vaccine-preventable diseases, and
assessed the appropriateness of polio endgame and post-certification implementation strategies. I also
conducted needs-assessments, developed outbreak response plans, and conducted research activities in
achieving and maintaining control/elimination of targeted vaccine-preventable diseases.
Throughout my career, I have demonstrated excellent analytic and research skills, as well as project
management abilities. I am performance-oriented, self-driven, and creative, with good program pitching
and organizational skills. I am also diplomatic in resolving conflicts and building consensus between
operational areas.
Overall, I am confident in my ability to continue making a meaningful impact in the field of public health
and look forward to future opportunities to do so.
