operational unit for humanitarian aid, development co-operation and emergency relief, implementing and
supporting projects in Health, Nutrition, WASH as well as Food Security & Income Generation worldwide.

Job Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Overall job purpose
Under the supervision of the Project Manager and the Health Officer, the Health Technician is responsible
for providing technical expertise on general medicine, preventive medicine, maternal and child healthcare
and mobile clinics teams carried out by Johanniter International in the project sites. He or She will work
alongside the outreach team to improve the overall basic primary health care knowledge, attitude, and
practice in the community. The position requires extensive field work and movement in Cabo Delgado.

Tasks:
Strategy and Vision
Actively supports the values of Johanniter and shapes programme work according to these values.
Together with the Senior Programs Manager and Project Manager, ensures the development and
implementation of the Johanniter International Assistance strategy in her/his area of responsibility.
Contributes to the development and implementation of the global strategy of Johanniter International
Assistance.
Health
Work in close collaboration with the Health Officer, Ministry of Health staff and the outreach team to
implement and to monitor the health activities based on National Protocols and Guidelines at the
district/field level.
2. Job description – Community Engagement Assistant 2
Ensure efficient implementation of SBCC sessions on maternal and child healthcare, antenatal care,
childhood illness, immunization, malaria prevention, childcare practices, nutrition practices, and child
development together with individual counselling at community and field level.
Ensure statistics records are kept updated in all the healthcare facilities, pharmacies, essential drugs,
medical and non-medical material/equipment and commodities storages and timely submission of
accurate reports to Johanniter International Assistance field office.
Technically support the logistics activities for the health projects as required;
Support technically in building capacity of health workers, mobile clinics teams, community health
workers on health and related health issues.
Conduct beneficiary identification and selection with local authorities and community members
according to JIA’s and target criteria.
Support in overall supervision of the health projects sites and teams at the district/field level.
Organize and attend focused group discussions and other related Community level meeting to
identify constraints to success of nutrition interventions.
Submit regular progress reports to the Health Officer for continuous assessment of the effectiveness
and impact of the health programme.
Support in data collection, health surveys, campaigns, and monitoring of beneficiary trends.
Mobilize communities for their engagement in improved basic primary health care practices.
Any other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time by the immediate supervisor.
Monitoring and Reporting
Responsible for monitoring the impact of the project, promote learning, support decision making and
documentation of best practices.
Produce weekly and monthly activities progress reports (quantities and qualitative);
Ensure health and related health issues project data collection and compilation;
Participate in generating lessons learned and success stories as per JIA’s procedures at field level;
Participate in the implementation of action plan for quality monitoring.
Capacity building
Liaise with communities and partner organizations in order to develop their capacities for improving
access to basic primary health care.
Support in building up the capacity of project team on basic primary health care package, on
environmental health, infection prevention control, as well as on health awareness messages and
practices.
Protection
Contributes to an inclusive work environment.
Actively promotes and fosters the rights and social positioning of vulnerable groups (women,
children, elderly, persons with disability) and ensures their active participation in projects.
Mobilizing and making communities aware on project objectives, outputs and activities and MEAL
systems and Child Safeguarding Policies
Person Specification
Professional Qualification and Experience:
Relevant Medical degree or diploma in Nursing/Midwifery, Public Health, Technician’s degree in
General Medicine, in Preventive Medicine or in Maternal and Child Healthcare or other health related
field.
At least one (1) year of proven work experience in similar position;
Experience in General Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Maternal and Child Healthcare;
Experience in Public Health, health in emergencies and mobile clinics;

Proven experience in health counselling, SBCC awareness on health and related health issues.
Experience of working in Health within an INGO in Mozambique is an asset;
Understanding of the Mozambican national protocols for IMCI management;
Experience in safe motherhood practices;
Knowledge of maternal and child healthcare, antenatal care, childhood illness, immunization, malaria
prevention, childcare practices, nutrition practices, and child development. Additional knowledge and
abilities about the alignment of health with under 5 children and pregnant and lactating women
nutrition and mental health programs.
Full commitment to humanitarian principles, gender equality, and the rights of displaced persons and
protection of children;
Proven previous experience working with displaced people.
Skills
Familiarity with health, Public Health, and related health issues programming
Proactive and problem-solving attitude;
Willingness to work in areas receiving displaced people in Cabo Delgado;
Good planning and analytical skills;
Ability to meet deadlines and work to set time schedules;
Good supervisor skills;
Excellent computer skills and competency in Microsoft Office;
Good communication skills both oral and written;
Fluent in Portuguese. Knowledge of the local languages desired, Intermediate level of English is an
asset;
Able to work well both within a team and independently; culturally sensitive and flexible to adjust
quickly to challenging and fast-changing context; coping well with stress and in intense and difficult
environment;
Committed, mature individual able to take responsibilities and make decisions in a transparent and
accountable way.
Remuneration:
According to JIA Mozambique Salary Grid, ranging from 70.000,00 MZN to 75.000,00 MZN gross
depending on education and work experience.
