ARC ENERGY RESOURCES CELEBRATES 20TH
ANNIVERSARY AND LONG PARTNERSHIP WITH MAS
MAS SUPPORTING OUR GROWTH JOURNEY
2. “MAS took us through a
growth and development
programme to help us get
the right structure in place
for the business. A tailored
leadership course on site
for project managers and
team leaders encouraged
staff to think as one unit
as we geared up for
expansion.”
Alan Robinson,
Managing Director
Arc Energy Resources Ltd is a welding engineering specialist
and international contractor of corrosion resistant weld overlay
clad products, services and quality assured fabrications.
The company has worked on numerous projects
with the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS)
over the last nine years to support the development
of its team, business strategy and processes.
Business growth and development
Having taken on two new directors, it became clear
that Arc Energy needed to improve the efficiency
of their board meetings and function in a different
way to how they had been previously as a smaller
company. This represented a significant shift in
culture and so the owners sought the help of MAS.
As the workforce grew, Arc Energy sought to
boost middle management so MAS undertook a
strategic management review of the business.

“Our shop floor is as
organised and successful
as it has ever been and
communication is 10
times better than before.
Production is so much
more efficient and there
is now an ethos of
continuous improvement
with staff encouraged to
make suggestions for
future ideas.”
Rosemary Robinson, Director
“We now have a well
established middle
management team in place
thanks to the MAS review,
which was fantastic. We
can manage through
meetings now and this has
freed up time to enable us
to look forward and plan for
the future. MAS has been
vital to this.”

Improving processes and
changing company culture
Arc Energy required support to improve its
production process as the business expanded.
MAS helped increase efficiency by reconfiguring
the shop floor layout and taking staff through a
5S factory simulation programme. A value stream
mapping workshop also led the company to
reorganise its Sales and Projects departments.
MAS also signposted Arc Energy to the
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships initiative,
which led to the company taking on two
graduates; one went on to take part in a Six
Sigma programme delivered by MAS and is
employed as Quality Manager at Arc Energy.

“We approached MAS for
guidance on what we needed
to do to meet the required
industry standards for
supplying the nuclear sector.”
Rosemary Robinson, Director
New markets
The nuclear industry is unique
in many ways and MAS worked
with Arc Energy to support them
throughout the Fit For Nuclear
(F4N) process. Managed by the
Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing
Research Centre, F4N helps
companies measure their current
operations against the standards
required to supply the nuclear
energy market and close any gaps.
MAS advised the company on
what Tier 1 firms will look for
from suppliers and carried out
a review of their processes.
Having passed F4N assessment,
Arc Energy has continued to
improve standards and has
gained another key market in
which to seek new contracts.
