5. OUR MANTRA: BUY LOW. SELL HIGH.
We take the Kenny Rogers approach to risk management. When
markets are low and attractive, that ratio (the green line) can be
moved down. Most importantly, when markets are up and risky, that
line can be moved up to protect gains and reduce or eliminate the
risk of loss.
MANAGE RISK EVEN WHEN TAKING RISK
On the diagram, the upper part of the pyramid represents the part of
the portfolio most exposed to risk. However, we believe that even this
group of assets does not always need to be 100% at risk in equities.
In fact, this portion can include a blend of fixed income products
and equities – adjusted to match your specific needs, goals and
preferences! Creating this blend means that your portfolio is actively
managed and continuously assessed for risk and performance, and
represents a completely different approach and mindset.

THE INCOME PHASE
During the income phase, those that are entering or are
already in retirement need to generate income to use on
a monthly basis. During the income phase, retirees must
use their accumulated wealth to replace the income they
received during their salary-earning years.
THE WEALTH TRANSFER PHASE
This phase is marked by the need to transfer wealth to
loved ones in a safe, tax-efficient manner.
THE GROWTH PHASE
In this phase, 30, 40 and 50-year-olds are growing
their wealth, interested in the highest possible return
on their investments. While retirement may still seem
far in the future for this group, these clients need to
properly establish a wealth and retirement plan.
THE TRANSITION PHASE
In this phase, those that are between the ages of 50 and
60 are getting ready to retire.
