GROWVista™ Modular Green Roof System
MODULE
Recycled plastic modules with built-in water retention and
adequate drainage.
GROWTH MEDIA LAYER
Blend of light-weight aggregate, organic and non-organic
materials engineered for optimal green roof growth and
sustainability.
PLANTS
Modules are available with pre-vegetated mats or can be
planted for custom plant designs and grown out to maturity.
SYSTEM BASICS
Green Roof Outfitters® introduces the
GROWVista™ modular green roofing
system, combining design flexibility
with cost effective installation. GROWVista modules
are engineered for simple installation and are
installed directly on a roof’s waterproofing system.
Whether it is a healing garden, an urban oasis, or a
vegetable/herb bed, our system has the flexibility
to accomplish a variety of vegetated green roof
applications. Flexibility and variety are hallmarks of
the GROWVista modular system.
SEDUM MATS/TILES
Sedum Mats/Tiles are the most efficient and effective way to
plant an extensive style green roof. Mats/Tiles are cultivated
like sod and rolled over growth media filled modules.
This method offers full mature vegetation at the time of
installation, shorter lead times for orders, and no visible
module lines. Plant mixes are made up of a standard blend
of top performing succulents.
PLANTING OPTIONS
CUSTOM HYBRID METHOD FOR
EXTENSIVE & INTENSIVE DESIGNS
CUSTOM HYBRID METHOD
With this method, modules are laid out at the project
location and overfilled with growing media to the desired
depth. Plants are installed at the project location. This
allows for very customized-extensive, semi-intensive, and
intensive vegetated green roof designs. This method can
also accommodate a wide variety of plant species including
ground covers, grasses, perennials, and edibles. This method
can allow for a seamless mix of intensive and extensive styles
within the same design.

& INTENSIVE DESIGNS

CUTTINGS/PLUGS
Planting from cuttings and/or plugs is another method for
extensive style green roofs and the preferred method for
semi-intensive and intensive green roof designs. Modules
can be planted on-site or grown out at the nursery. This
allows for a more customized plant selection. Modules can
accommodate a wide variety of plant species including
ground covers, grasses, perennials, and edibles!
Storm Water Runoff BMP - Green roofs can help
significantly reduce storm water runoff. This helps
keep contaminated run off from over taxing storm water
management systems and ending up in streams, rivers, lakes,
and other water resources.
Reduces Cooling Costs - Research has proven that green roofs
reduce heat gain into the building and can reduce HVAC energy
costs by up to 50%. A four-inch-deep extensive modular green roof
can offer an equivalent insulation value of R100†
.
Extended Roof Longevity - Green Roofs protect the underlying
waterproofing system from UV degradation and temperature
fluctuation. This can extend the life of the waterproofing system by
200-400%.
Improves PV Solar Panel and HVAC Efficiency - PV panels and HVAC
equipment perform better in cooler temperatures. Green roofs cool
the air around them and help make PV panels and HVAC equipment
operate more efficiently.
Urban-Heat-Island (UHI) Best-Management-Practice (BMP)
- Green roofs reduce the UHI effect by adding cooling green
vegetated space in place of empty roof space that radiates heat.
Habitat Creation - Green roofs create habitat for birds, bees,
butterflies and other species important to a healthy ecosystem.
Regional Materials - Green Roof Outfitters uses project specific
regional materials whenever possible to produce all of our
products.

OPTIONS & FEATURES
GROWVISTA 2
GROWVista 2 is a 1 ft. x 2 ft. x 4 in. module with built-in irrigation channels. Deeper reservoirs help the system maximize stormwater
retention. The GROWVista 2 was designed with channels to allow air flow through the system. This helps mitigate wind uplift and
supplies oxygen to plant roots. The channels also accommodate irrigation supply lines for all types of irrigation systems, either during
installation or post-installation. This module is Ideal for extensive and semi-intensive vegetated green roof designs.
This system incorporates the GROWVista 2 module with added perforated extension walls that add 2 - 4 inches of depth - increasing
system depths to 6 - 8 inches. The perforated sidewalls create soil-to-soil contact, allowing plant roots, moisture, and nutrients to move
freely throughout the system. These modules are ideal for extensive, semi-intensive, and intensive vegetated green roof designs.

WALKWAY PAVERS
EDGE TREATMENT
While not required, edge treatment offers a more finished
look with the GROWVista modular green roof system. When
designing with this system, edge treatments are used to
accommodate curves and angles in the design. They can also
be used to show a clean transition between GROWVista 2
and 2X modules.
Walkway pavers can be used to make a roof top garden
more inviting and create usable space. They offer the
ability to add hardscape features like walkways and
patios into green roof designs. They can also be used
to create access to rooftop mechanical equipment and
avoid un-needed foot traffic in vegetated areas. Pavers
are available in wood, concrete, and recycled rubber.
IRRIGATION
Irrigation requirements for green roofs can vary depending on
plants, climate, and other variables. Typically, extensive green
roofs will only require irrigation during establishment and
periods of extended drought. This varies greatly depending on
climate. Other green roofs, mainly intensive designs that use
more ornamental plant varieties, will require more regimented
irrigation. Having a dedicated irrigation system in place can
help maintain the health and longevity of any green roof. The
GROWVista vegetated green roof system has built-in channels for
irrigation supply lines and can be easily intergrated with a variety of
overhead spray irrigation components.
