3. IDENTIFY THE VARIOUS MODELS OF
ATOMS
APPRECIATE THE WORK OF THE
SCIENTIST IN DISCOVERING THE
MODELS OF AN ATOM THAT WE USED
discover the structure of the atom
which led to creation of the models of
the atom.
4.
5. Directions: Identify which subatomic particles match each of these descriptions.
In one of the numbers, the answer box will have more than one answer.
6. Objective: After performing the activity,
you should be able to describe
Thomsonās Plum Pudding Model of the
atom.
7. Procedure; .
Look at the picture of a
watermelon below. This will
serve as your model of an
atom..
Label the parts of an atom
based on Thomsonās atomic
model.
11. A group of scientists composed of
Ernest Rutherford, Johannes "Hansā
Wilhelm Geiger and Ernest Marsden
tested Thomsonās model by
bombarding a very thin sheet of gold
foil with positively-charged alpha
particles. Their experiment is referred
to as the alpha particle scattering
experiment.
12. 1. Most alpha particles were
undeflected.
2. Some are deflected at
smaller angles.
3. Few alpha particles deflected
almost back towards the
source.
13. The gold-foil experiment showed that
the atom consists of a small, massive,
positively charged nucleus with the
negatively charged electrons being at a
great distance from the center
