1. Manchester Celebrates LGBT History Month This Weekend
At the Sandra Burslem Building this Friday (26th) afternoon there is going to be a showing
of the Emmy award-winning documentary 'Screaming Queens', and on Saturday (27th)
there is a festival of events celebrating the month at the People's History Museum.
'Screaming Queens' is co-written, co-directed and co-produced by Prof. Susan Stryker,
author of 'Transgender History', and tells the story of the first riot against the oppression
of queer people in the United States in 1966. Prof. Stryker is an Associate Professor of
Gender and Women's Studies at the University of Arizona, and will be at the Sandra
Burslem Building to present her documentary and take part in a Q&A session. The
showing starts at 2pm on Friday and tickets are available from Eventbrite (link to

The People's History Museum has a festival day of events including talks, tours, theatre
and music performances on Saturday from 10am, with guests such as humans rights
activist Peter Tatchell, Prof. Susan Stryker, Allie Dillon from the Bristol Records Office,
Schools OUT UK and Pagelight Productions. The day is donations-only, and visitors who
attend any part of the day will receive 15% off in the café and 10% off in the shop. All the
