A little more about me - Jeslyn
1. Through this
short comic, I
would like to
talk a little
more about
myself and the
three things
that drives me
as a designer
so far!
2. I’ve been in
workplace
design since I
graduated in
2017, and it’s
something that I
truly am
passionate
about.
Asides from
that, I enjoy
sketching and
learning new
things whenever
possible!
I enjoy interior
design as it
allows me to
have the best of
both worlds.
Sketching Learning
3. Since young, I was never one to pay attention in
class. I enjoyed doodling on my textbooks and this
resulted in a great dip in my studies during my
earlier years.
At this point, drawing was something that was fun
& relaxing for me and I didnt take it too seriously.
However, one very fateful day when I was ten, my
father bought me my very first comic book from
the petrol kiosk.
I can still remember the day very clearly as I
remember a whole new world being opened up to
me as I browsed through the pages.
4. I started
drawing my
own comic
books in class.
It became a hit
amongst my
classmates
and I started
renting these
comics to
them. Using
the money
collected, I
would buy
another
sketchbook to
draw the next
issue.
This went on
till I
graduated.
5. Seeing my
friends enjoy
what I churned
out gave me a
sense of
achievement,
which was a
feeling that I
enjoyed.
The same goes
for interior
design. Watching
users enjoy a
space that I’ve
worked on gives
me joy as well.
That feeling is
the first thing
that drives me to
do what I do
everyday.
6. No matter how hard I studied, I was not doing well in
school. I was called to the principal’s office multiple
times as my grades were horrible. I was constantly
last in class and I almost had to repeat a year.
I came to accept the fact that I was not cut out for
learning, and was prepared to flunk my major exams.
I gave it one last shot, and started combining my
love for drawing and comic books, with my studies.
This helped me understand concepts better and it
made learning much more interesting!
Eventually I did really well for my major exams and I
placed first in class. This meant that I could go to any
course I wanted to!
7. I always thought
that I wasn’t cut
out for learning,
but turns out I
just learnt in a
way that was
different from
others.
Drawing became
a way of
expression for
me, and it had
also become a
way for me to
understand
others.
That is the
second thing
that drives me to
do what I do
everyday.
8. Upon graduation from Temasek Polytechnic, I started
my employment at Graphite. Through my time here,
I’ve picked up various hard and soft skills.
Asides from work, I began to learn after work as well.
I studied visual communications, lighting design, and
I even signed up for Newcampus!
A special type of school that allows you to learn
about various topics not just related to design.
I’ve also come to realize the best lessons learnt are
not just from the classroom, but they’re the lessons
learnt from mistakes.
Although the journey has not been smooth sailing,
I’m grateful for the unique opportunities that I’ve
been given!
9. Everyday I’m
learning
something new
at work and that
keeps me really
excited to go to
work each day.
Implementing
what I’ve learnt
after work into
my full time job
has been very
exciting too!
That feeling of
excitement for
learning is the
last thing that
drives me to do
what I do
everyday.
10. These are the
three things that
inspire me to do
what I do
everyday.
First, the sense of
achievement
from seeing
people enjoy what
I’ve worked on,
Second, being
able to express
myself everyday
at my job,
And lastly the
excitement of
learning new
things everyday.
Thank you!
