Peter Abelard is probably most famous, however, for the story of his love affair with his student Héloïse which has become legendary as a romantic tale. was to become one of the great minds of the twelfth century in her own right, and theirs is the great tragic love story of the middle ages. They fell in love, had a child, secretly married, and exchanged a series of love letters that have become the stuff of legend. Unfortunately, they kept their marriage a secret from Fulbert. but he has been known in modern times mainly for his connection with Héloïse.
In 1121, he was charged with heresy for rationalizing the account of Trinitarian dogma. In Abelard’s later years, Bernard of Clairvaux attacked his rationalism and procured his condemnation.
Nominalism - the doctrine that the various objects labeled by the same term have nothing in common but their name.
Realism - the philosophical doctrine that physical objects continue to exist when not perceived.
