MATHEMATICIAN
Dynamic, creative, fast learner with excellent communication skills and analytical
abilities. Principle strengths include exceptional problem-solving abilities, vast
experience discussing difficult mathematical concepts with both colleagues and students,
and proficiency in a wide variety of technology. In most recent full-time position at the
University of Mary Washington in Virginia, taught twenty-four credit hours per academic
year, conducted publishable inter-disciplinary research in dynamical systems and
mathematical modeling, and held a variety of service positions in the university and
mathematics department.
ONLINE EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
Taught for more almost five years for South University Online (MAT 2058,
1005, 0099, and 1500)
Participated in several conference calls with faculty at South University in
attempts to improve student retention in Statistics and College Algebra
courses
Taught over 6 years for Colorado Technical University Online, teaching 2-3
sections per session of their introductory mathematics courses

RECOGNITION
Tenured and promoted to associate professor at Mary Washington in 2007
Obtained highest possible performance evaluation score at Mary Washington
six years in a row
Received the University of Arizona Foundation campus-wide award for
meritorious performance by a teaching assistant in 2000
Published an article internationally recognized via a summary cover story in
the monthly newsletter of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics
COMMUNICATION
Taught thirteen different mathematics courses in 8 years at Mary Washington
Received consistently positive feedback from students, especially on the
ability to explain difficult concepts in a clear manner
Presented research at a variety of national and international conferences both
mathematical and inter-disciplinary
Published several articles in academic journals, some in collaboration with
researchers from other disciplines

TECHNOLOGY
Restructured the MW department web page and managed it for seven years,
adding much content directly aimed at increasing the department’s profile
Introduced several software packages to the department, including Matlab,
which is a crucial skill for many of the department’s majors
Proficient in a variety of software packages including Matlab, C++, SPSS,
and the online teaching/meeting platform Adobe Connect
EVALUATION
Served on three search committees for new faculty positions at MW
Created and graded dozens of examinations and other assignments for a wide
variety of mathematics courses
OUTREACH
Worked extensively with other departments and mentored senior theses for the
first two Mathematics majors to ever graduate with Honors in two disciplines,
one in Biology and one in Computer Science
Created and hosted an annual tournament for high school students preparing
for the Advanced Placement Calculus examination, giving strong potential
future students from four local counties a positive impression of the university
Advised the department’s student group for six years, organizing several
annual departmental events and recruiting new majors
Member of several campus-wide committees including one year as chair of
the elected Faculty Organization Committee
INITIATIVE
Made numerous additions to the department’s course offerings, including a
course on foundations of advanced mathematics, a race/gender specialization
for Introductory Statistics, and a freshman seminar on chaos theory
Took part in creating a graduate program for local high school teachers,
resulting in the opportunity for dozens of local high school teachers to obtain
a graduate degree
Developed and taught a class on mathematical modeling for this program
Created and managed a walk-in tutoring center for students in nine of the
department’s classes, giving majors a valuable opportunity for teaching
experience and non-majors a valuable outside resource for assistance
DIVERSITY
Served seven years on the Board of Directors for the UMW James Farmer
Scholars Program designed to give local minorities in grades 7-12 exposure to
college
