DURING THE PANDEMIC
Construction of handwashing facilities:
To follow the physical distancing requirement, faucets
should be 1 meter a part and learners should not be
facing each other when handwashing. Partitions can be
installed to ensure physical distancing measures are
followed.

DURING THE PANDEMIC
Construction of handwashing facilities:
Facilities should be located in strategic locations such
as school and classroom entrances, eating areas, near
toilets, play areas and waiting areas.

Construction of handwashing facilities:
Tap can be turned on and off by arm or foot (ex. Pedal-
operated)
There should be disability accessible hand hygiene
options

Construction of handwashing facilities:
If not connected to a piped water system, size and
quantity should be appropriate to number of users
(water quantity at least 0.5-2L per person)
Grey water should be captured and safely disposed

Construction of handwashing facilities:
Easy to repair and parts can be sourced locally
Water does not need to be drinking water quality ( ex.
Rainwater catchment, wells, pumps)
21. REGULAR CLEANING AND DISINFECTION OF
SURFACES AND FLOORS
Clean and disinfect surfaces and floors daily. Practice
routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces such
as tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops,
handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets,
sinks and others.

SURFACES AND FLOORS
Cleaning can be done using detergent or soap with
water prior to disinfection.
Disinfection can be done using household
disinfectants, diluted household bleach solutions or
alcohol solutions with at least 70% alcohol.

Cleaning staff should use personal protective
equipment (pipes) such as overalls or aprons,
facemask, rubber gloves, rubber boots. Cleaners can
also use eye protection such as face shields, or goggles
if there is a risk of splash from organic materials or
chemicals.

After cleaning, practice proper waste disposal for used
disposable pipes or disinfect pipes if they are reusable.
