The target audience for the film is females, specifically teenage girls, as the protagonist is female and deals with themes of insecurity that teenage girls can relate to. It also targets gothic people and horror fans interested in slasher or gothic genres. While the main target is females, males may also be attracted due to themes of the "male gaze". The targeted audience is likely to dress in gothic clothing like hooded jackets with band names and makeup, relating to themes of social insecurities explored in the film. Race is not a defining factor of the target audience.
2. Who would stand in a line to see your
film?
• Gothic people (our piece has a
gothic element to it)
• Females (it’s a film about
women)
• Horror fans (maybe people into
Slasher or Gothic horrors,
similar to the teenagers in
Scream 4)
• People who are into blood and
gore.
3. Gender
We thought the most fitted and suitable gender for the
target audience is girls because the protagonist is
female so they can relate to her. The main gender for
the target audience would be the female gender
because of the links to insecurity which are linked to
real life situations with teenage girls and this also
makes the movie really relatable for teenage girls, despite the twist in the film, which is
not shown in the opening two minutes of our media product.
We thought that males could also link
into the audience with links to the
“male gaze”, we thought that males
would find an attraction to the female
protagonist.
You don’t get many horror films with a
female protagonist
4. What do they wear?
We think that our targeted audience would
wear gothic clothing and large, unfitted
hooded jackets with band names, for
example, on them. We think this would be a
targeted audience because they are not
mainstream and they appear to have some
stereotypical insecurities.
Perhaps the female audience would wear quite a lot of
makeup, similar to the protagonist of the film or maybe
even more, this could be another link to social
insecurities. We think this suits the description of our
audience because they would be into horror films, and
they could, in many ways link and compare to the
protagonist such as the social problems.
5. Race
• All
• We don’t think our audience is specifically
racially categorised, however our protagonist
could insinuate that it is a form of racial
categorisation because she is of a black
nature.
