2. SWOT ANALYSIS
Questions
1. What environmental factors have helped to create the situation Jasper Hennings faces? What
factors does Jasper need to consider when deciding on his course of action?
- Many factors contributing to the situation to what Jasper Henning. The Biggest
environmental factor was technology. The lack of understanding only lasts so long as no
one is monitoring the computer activities. Apparently the employee that was fired
discovered Darger’s propensity towards pornography. Another aspect of this situation is the
overwhelming prevalence of and dependence on email, and the ease of getting into
someone else email.
- Jasper need to consider firing both Darger and the female employee who violated the
internet policy with the advantage of Strengthen the policy on termination and consistency
in upholding the company’s values and policies, Promote equality among employees.
Disadvantage of that move will be Costly and difficult to replace Henry Darger and
Compensation for employee’s termination of contract.
- Another factor is letting Darger and female employee stay but with sanction. The advantage
of that are to promote equality among employees, sympathy to employees, avoids legal
implication, opportunity to re-appeal the current policies, continuous productivity of the
company.
2. Analyze Rio Grande’s culture. In addition to the expressed cultural values and beliefs, what
other subconscious values and beliefs do you detect? Are conflicting values present? When
values are in conflict, how would you decide which ones take precedence?
3. - The values of the company are being ethical, with integrity, honestly and respect for
employees. There appears to be a subconscious value that it’s alright to ignore
company policies as long as the infraction don’t really harm other employees.
Internal environment: Corporate culture , The management is aware of this but is
not doing anything about it. Because of this, the employees continue to violate the
company policy because What factors does Jasper need to consider when deciding
on his course of action? If the decision is in line with the company’s values of
integrity, honesty and respect * The effect of the decision to other employees * The
effect in his community. The problem with this conflicting value is that there will be
differences about where to draw the line on infractions. Which activities are alright
and which are not? Who decides whether another employee is harmed? Why is it
alright to do personal email, but not alright to engage in other personal activities.
Though there is already an internet policy, some of the employees are still using the
internet for personal use. The management is aware of this but is not taking any
action because they felt that it’s not worth the effort to enforce the policy for minor
infractions
3. Assume you are Jasper, What are the first two action steps you would take to handle the Henry
Darger situation? How would your role as cultural leader influence your decision? What
message will your solution send to the other managers and rank-and-file employees?
- If I were Jasper, I will place Henry Darger under probation and require him to consult and
be evaluated by a psychiatrist. I will do mplementation stronger of internet protocol
policies, Review company mission, vision, values and policies and conduct an investigation
on circumstances surrounding the female employee firing.
- As a leader Being a leader, we should be objective but still compassionate dealing with
employees’ shortcomings.
